it's suprisingly amusing that even these days here in Russia we study music by schoolbooks made up by Rimsky-Korsakov, he is my personal hero
Rimsky Korsakov my favorite composer .Indeed, his music is a true fairy tale .

Like the first light of dawn, this symphonic poem opens your eyes to new promises and to all the wonders of nature. Evocative of powers beyond observation, these pieces pull the strings of the heart, attract nostalgia and awaken the loves, the skinned lives and torpor of tormented watchmen 🤮

As we all know, Rimsky-Korsakov was a great composer and orchestrator. Based on his quote here about this piece he was also influential in his outlook. Jean Sibelius studied NRK, and said almost the same thing about his tone poem 'En Saga'.

I guess the three giants of 19th c Russian music are Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin just as the 20th c giants are Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov.

Agree, although some might wish to make it to 4, just adding Mousorsky, and Stravinsky respectively as next members.
