Congratulations on your beautiful performance of this mainstay of orchestra literature. (Barbara Brundage: You did a wonderful job of arranging this!) The striking element of this piece that makes it so engaging is the large, lush chords that sound all the tones of the harmony in a single stroke. You present them beautifully. I am so pleased to hear this. Bravo!

I turned this on for my sleeping newborn and girls who are playing quietly. My husband's ears perked right up and he quietly said, "So good." I whispered, "Josh Layne." He smiled, nodded and said, "Yeah." I'm serious. We've looked around KZbin for other harpists for our girls to listen to. There's no comparison Josh. Dang!

Beautiful Harp Arrangement Josh! I'm still waiting very patiently on your Harp Tuesday Video I requested to you. Remember that I was talking about playing the Harp Accompaniment of my own arrangement of Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 in C-Sharp Minor for Violin, Harp & Strings? It can either be done on a Lever or Pedal Harp. But I remembered seeing one of your Harp Tuesday Videos of learning Scheherazade on the Harp, and it's a beautiful arrangement you did!

This is so well done and helpful, I watched the tutorial video and it is also very insightful, especially the part regarding listening to the original orchestra piece. Thank you so much for making these videos Josh. There is another piece, Offenbach’s Barcarolle, also an orchestra piece, also arranged by Barbara Brundage, I would love to see your interpretation of it. Thank you again!

I play the Maxwell arrangement on pedal harp. I appreciate the way Brundage incorporates more of the themes from the original work. I watched your tutorial videos on this piece several times when I was trying to decide which arrangement I wanted to take on. (There is also the big Fantasie arrangement by ... Boldachev. It truly is a traditional “Fatasie” with all those extraneous cadenzas and ornament sections.) I do play her Clair de Lune on Lever - her arrangements are so well balanced between necessity and faithfulness to original. I’m afraid I will never have THIS much patience with levers! This is a great lever lesson- so smooth. Your videos are such a tremendous resource for so many of us, and I’m so glad you added this lovely performance version in a beautiful location. Exquisite. Thank you.

Thanks Kara! Her Clair de Lune is definitely a lever work out, whee! But an outstanding transcription, as is this :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, the links are in the video description :) Or here: The sheet music is available as a stand-alone PDF www.harpcenter.com/product/pdf-download-brundage-class2-scheherazade/ or as part of Barbara Brundage’s collection “Classics on Request #2” www.harpcenter.com/product/pdf-download-brundage-class2-scheherazade/ I did several Harp Tuesday episodes on this arrangement - you can watch them at www.joshlayne.com/harptuesday/scheherazade/

Have you played her arrangement of Gymnopedie? If so, what did you think of it?
@JoshLayne5 жыл бұрын
I haven't, but I imagine it's well done! I know a number of people have arranged the first Gymnopedie, and in general it's just a matter of figuring out lever changes. If you feel inspired, the piano original is on IMSLP - you could try your hand at it... :) imslp.simssa.ca/files/imglnks/usimg/3/38/IMSLP01599-Satie_Gymnopedies.pdf

Are you playing Barbara's actual arrangement or your own? I hear wonderful glisses but don't see your hands playing them!
@JoshLayne2 жыл бұрын
Yep, playing exactly her arrangement! The first time I play the glisses, at 2:50, I'm cutting to a different camera angle, so maybe a little hard to see, but the 2nd time at 3:40 should be quite visible, hopefully :)
