Einfach wunderbar!

The conduct of Mravinsky is awed and venerably . The person who listens to the music Mravinsky conducts is overwhelmed . The conductor who surpasses Mravinsky does not exist in anyone but Mravinsky in the world !

It was some years ago that I came across a book by Munin Nederlander entitled "Kitezh: The Russian Grail Legends" I had never heard of this book before. But about a week later I came across Rimsky-Korsakoff's "The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh." And, for all I was familiar with many of Rimsky-Korsakoff's works, I had never heard of this piece, either! Both within the space of a single week! How is that for synchronicity?

The set of operas of Rimsky Korsakov is a barely expored mine of gold. Fortunately, orchestral suites exist, who can give an idea of their rich content to the music lovers. Here, the Legend of Invisible City of Kitezh is conducted by Mravinski. Who can find better? Any candidates?

THIS has been a fave of mine since 1964! Such tenderhearted music! I collaborated with a loved one in a novel based on the opera story in 1980s. It was part of what bonded us in a marriage almost 36 years ago! Still trying to makeover the story in the here and now.

It is a great mistake to say: this composer scores well, or, that composition is well orchestrated, for orchestration is part of the very soul of the work. A work is thought out in terms of the orchestra, certain tone-colours being inseparable from it in the mind of its creator and native to it from the hour of its birth. Could the essence of Wagner's music be divorced from its orchestration? One might as well say that a picture is well drawn in colours. - N. Rimsky Korsakoff
