My headcanon for the mechanoid weapons that fall from space (Defoliator and Psychic Droner) is that the negative affects that your colony experiences don't event scratch the surface of what these weapons are capable of. These weapons have been disconnected from their ship and floating in space for who knows how long. They're malfunctioning and running on backup power. Despite all of this, these weapons can still do so much harm, even in this weakened state.

Some 'fun' etymology behind the Apocriton's name; Both of its roots are from Greek! Apo- as a prefix means "without," or "from," among many other things. -crito means judge, and was also used as a masculine agentive suffix. Putting that all together - Apocriton, translated directly, means "Without judgement" - implying it kills for the sake of killing. However, it also has a secondary meaning - it serves to further the idea that the Apocriton knows what it is doing, and presumably is enjoying it, as the latter part of its name (crito) serves as a mark of self-agency.

The Mechainator scenario is my favorite, not only you get pair of mechanoids on start, but you also get quite some research like microelectronics. What i like to do is to set up in mountainous areas and dig tunnels, or isolate my pawn by building a wall and then digging. In fact it is very easy to manage one colonist, since mechanoids cannot have mental breaks nor require any food.

I think from the ruins and the destroyed mech parts everywhere, whenever you have all the dlc on, and the fact they are hostile to humans suggest mechanoids are what destroyed the planet your on. But somthing had to have stopped them from completely killing everyone, which is interesting to think about. For all we know, it could have been the archotech computer on the planet that stopped them From killing everyone.

Not sure if its a fan theory or confirmed canon but i heard somewhere that the reason we only see small hamlets and not towns or cities is because mechanoids are drawn to major population centers meaning that most people have learned to stick to small, well defended communities that the hive (or whatevers left of it) deems too small to send large swarms but large enough to sustain small to medium scale industry. as for why anyones left it could be that the hive was simply destroyed seeing how the description says they are united in purpose but not execution & the mechs left were enough to still destroy large settlements but not scour the whole planet for everyone letting small discreet communities persist, or the mech being a population control measure by someone off-world for some sick glitterworld bloodsport show or just handwaved as an archotech needing them to keep the planed wild for whatever reason.

It is said that mechanoids are left from the great war, however it does not say what. I belive mechanoids were created to fight but after the war ended, they were left to roam as it says in the lore. Maybe the apocryton took control or smth. EDIT: mechanoids were apparently corrupted by a signal from the mechhive and turned on their creators and insecrs were brought to fight them

I love the Mechanoid lore in rimworld. I like to believe they were used first to fight an insect invasion dawning the idea to copy insect style hives then later in time for a great machine war that was lost thousands of years ago. Their Mech commanders long dead. Which was was caused by the ancients war. Who we're all wipe out. Forcing them to create crypto tombs in the hopes of outlasting the mechanoid existence. Which as some awake early to discover the world stripped to very little resources and much of the danger still present. Its the best conclusion after reading all the lore and adding many mech mods. If you havent seen it yet. Checkout the classic rimworld video "the lonely mechanoid".

Amazing as always the only thing that i am not quite sure is the implication that the mechanoids we encounter as enemies are controlled by archotechs,i think is heavily implied that they have gone feral and are not being controlled by anyone specific,combining that with the fact that most archotechs are either Benevolent or indifferent,it does not make sense for them to control Several mechanoids armies at least with the objective of wiping us out,otherwhise the rim would be a death world by now,The Only archotech that is confirmed to be hostile is horax and as we can see it prefers... more direct... methods...(Speaking of it will you make a lore video on it?)
@thenightarchives4148
@thenightarchives4148 Ай бұрын
I don't think that Horax is the only hostile archotech. There has to be at least another one that is either directly controlling the Mechanoid Hive or at the very least is indirectly influencing their actions. Think about it, the psychic droner itself is proof towards this theory, as that is a weapon built by an Archotech. Not only the description of the droner itself states that, but even its graphics are made within the same style of other archotechnology. The droner is stated to be a weapon belonging to Mechanoid ships, its only logical to think that if a Mechanoid ship would make use of archotechnology, for an archotech to be in control of it in the first place. PS. Oh yeah, I plan to make a good, long video on Horax

Dunno if anyone ever said this, but your accent fits really well with the marble statue character Maybe they're hostile to humans because they're still fighting an ancient war that has ended long ago, a war between their creator species and humans. A war that humans won, extincting their creators, so there's no one to stop their battle protocols. Kinda like 40k Orks, considering they're self-growing. As such, maybe they used to be more sophisticated and have devolved over time

There is very explicitly no aliens in RImworld's universe. Everything you find on the 'Rim and beyond originates from humanity (unless you're a mod fiend :P). Xenotypes are exotic cases of genetic engineering or environmental adaptations, mechanoids were produced by humans on glitterworlds for every purpose imagineable. Even archotechs are human-originating, being the result of an advanced Glitterworld achieving *Singularity*, their own technology becoming so advanced that it outpaces them and, presumably, overtakes that glitterworld to turn it into a nascent archotech body.

I find the Apocritons to be the most interesting mechanoid of the group Being sentient machine of war with an in-built mini psychic droner and a AOE repair shockwave is one thing, but to be aggressive towards humans because they simply "hate humans" rather than following their programs like other mechanoids does raise some questions about their self-awareness Was the self-awareness an intentional design, or have they developed it over the years? If the former, was the hatred also intentional? And if the latter, what made every single Apocriton simulaneously despise humanity?

After having made vids for most/all of the "official" rimworld content, what'd you think of theory videos and including using screens and recording from lore friendly mods. Since there's things that clearly exist in the lore that aren't in the game or official ludeon content, such as how there's charge rifles in vanilla but no charge rifle mini turrets, or mounting an inferno canon or charge blaster on a mini turret, things that would defenetly happen when we've got people who made atrocious things like some of the revolver magazine fed revolvers. keeping the cons from having a spining chamber but removing the pros of a revolver.

An interesting fact is that the mechanoids have turned rogue because there is a signal from the mechhive turning them rogue. I believe that the mechs are remains from a great war. The 2 factions creatd mechanoids to fight but the signal turned them rouge and the 2 factions started fighting the mechanoids, hence why they they bought the insects to combat the mechanoids. I believe the signal was released by an archotech created but it turned rogue, the arcotech is probably able to help mechanoids create pyshic ships and other advanced things like emi dynamos, sun blocker and toxic spewer also in the arcotech ending there are mechanoids guarding the archotech.

If you look at the age of the mechanoids, you will see they are thousands of years old. They are rouge since over that time, the AI got corrupted. The deterioration of their hardware when abandoned in the desert or at the bottom of the ocean caused the code in their software to not attack their own side no longer work. With the new update you can now be raided by the ones that were dumped in the ocean

Mechanites and Mechanoids are separate. I think humans in Rimworld still need to consume water, it's just a mechanic that was not added as from a gameplay perspective it might have been annoying to deal with along with everything else. The difference between a Mechanoid and a Robot is that a Mechanoid can work forever. You drop it in the middle of an ocean to carry rocks back and forth at the bottem of the sea and 10 million years later it will still be there doing that, just as fast as day one. They need no repairs and no recharging, they will never wear down or rust. Biotech kinda broke lore to balance them for gameplay, but at this point it is tradition that DLCs break the Lore in one major spot. Like the Rimworld being a lawless planet and there are no governments big or small, and then there is the empire somehow, when the whole point of the lore is that without FTL ships, multi-planet government is impossible. One planet in your empire has a zombie outbreak? Well you will find out 200 years after all human life was wiped out! Better send a rescue party that needs another 200 years to get there.
@thenightarchives4148

I think that, while Mechanoids can certainly self-sustain for a long time, they cannot do so indefinitely, otherwise they wouldn't require energy cells found within Mech Clusters and they would have no need for a dormant state which is probably meant to conserve energy for a longer time. If they were able to self sustain endlessly, then they could be exploited as an infinite energy source, which so far is something that only archotechs managed to create.

The Empire does not actually break the lore,they are not a Empire that covers the "Galaxy"(by than i mean the 1200 light year buuble of colonized space),at their high they controled only a few systems(Using feudalism to govern it),but currently they collapsed Scatterring in several refuuge fleets,the one we find in gameplay is one of these refuuge fleets.

@thenightarchives4148 mechanoids do dormant recharging, which is when they are sleeping. I assume they have mini reactors in them and use mech power cells to charge faster

Question are these in the vanilla game or are they related to a DLC

I remember playing a multiplayer game with a buddy of mine a few years ago. After a couple years he got hit with a massive mech raid and I was able to drop in a hand full of soldiers from my own colony as a quick response force. They stood valiantly, but were all killed and his base burned to the ground. Unfortunately he was still learning the game at that point and didn't properly section his base nor begin to convert it to a non combustible material.
