I love this playstyle. Most of my games are spent building mega-bases that don't really benefit from being huge. I just like making big bases. I like to think of the colony as a big art project. Once I get bored of a base I'll relocate my colony and rebuild with a new design. I've had a game go for 25 years just constructing giant art projects and abandoning them.

Whenever I want to start a new base another update destroys my save. I'm just waiting for the right moment, but I always choose the wrong one. Fkn so many bases lost to an update and for some reason Steam doesn't let you STOP updates. It makes you revert but you still have to update and going through all that hell back in the day having to click 1 mod at a time was just time loss. Too many good memories with Rimworld and too many bad memories when it comes to hedonistic modding practices mid game destroying saves just like skyrim. Respect for powering through.

I love the barbicans/turrets you build out from your fortress ring walls. I know you were going for aesthetics, not function. But it's still pretty similar to how I usually build out a star fort pattern (b/c Rimworld square tiles) as I expand. Even with vanilla (no embrasures), a series of barricades and spaced walls for cover on each barbican makes for pretty effective overlapping fields of fire -- essential for culling the 200-pawn raids at max raid size. All the green spaces, boulevards, etc look really amazing. Your deliberate concentric ring planning was a real success. I love it! Everyone can play a sandbox how they want, but in watching a LOT of playthroughs and timelapses, I feel like the audience wants to see dynamic activity. Change, growth, destruction (of course, b/c viewers are bloodthirsty and love a good disaster), and reconstruction. So from a gameplay POV as well as an audience POV, I wonder if occasional bigger waves of attackers could contribute to the viewing experience: A horde of barbarians shows up every few years, breaking through multiple walls and compartments until the last dogged survivors defeat them at one of the few remaining gates outside the central town hall/temple/HQ/shrine. Rebuild in 3-7 years, and it all might happen again. Purely from a risk-averse gameplay experience, that could be frustrating to see hours of hard work half-obliterated in 1-3 major raid waves. But if we consider all the pawns and buildings as just story props for the story generator, then it could be more useful/fun. Not saying you should do this for your playthrough. I'm just thinking out loud about stuff that I've noticed or wanted in my own and others' plays.
@Leeeighmail Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, I appreciate the comments. I only ever intended to show this as a still shot at the end so I gave no thought to the narrative aspect and that's perhaps evident in the timelapse. It's not something I've really considered but moving forward if I make more then it's something I will make note of because I think that could be a cool addition. Almost like an abridged play through if the narrative aspect can be captured adequately.
