same here, I used to play as GK and despite Italy has a tradition of best GK (at that time we had plenty), I was completely shocked to see Dasaev in action, especially with shot at short distance, he had impressive reaction time.

Had he played for England they would have won the world cup many times over. No goalkeeper have come close to his brilliance so far. Having watched so many series of world cups, Euros and Olympic, I still could find any goalkeeper tah could ever match this brilliant man. He's certainly missed by many. The best ever.

What a great goalkeeper he was. Ondoubtedly one of the best of his area, top10 of all times in my opinion. And strange enough, the goalkeeper who also will be remembered by one of the most iconic goals ever, Van Basten his volley in the Euro88 final. That remarkable goal deserved a classstyle goalkeeper like Dassayev was.

After Lev Yashin, Dasaev is the best URSS goalkeeper of all time. As a Brazilian, I remember in 1982 not being too concerned with URSS’ attacking players (not that they were not good), but I was more concerned about Dasaev blocking our shots. At the end, Sócrates and Éder managed to beat the incredible Dasaev. (And there was a penalty in favor of the USSR that the referee “failed to see”, but we all saw that).

Rinat was burn in Astarakhan. It is a watermelon cultivation region in Russia. Dasayev has got first experience from that , during the cropping season . This I read from his interview about his childhood.
