Thank you for the info... I have been having problems since I installed my Ring Doorbell Pro and this week it completely disconnected which ended up being a bad transformer but in the process I tried what you explained here of removing the mechanical Doorbell so I left it like that and now I have realized that I connect quicker and don't loose connection. Thank you very much...

Thank you for the video. I have that same exact mechanical chime and I installed the battery on it. The sound was off and upon watching this video the chime was set to digital. I switched it to mechanical and the chime works as it should. Did not have to upgrade the transformer. Hoping it doesn’t quit working as other people have mentioned.

this is a really good explanation of the biggest issue with these ring doorbell cameras. a chime pro won't solve an inefficient power issue. they just don't get enough power to operate well with a default installation ( i.e. swap out original old doorbell w/ cam, install wiring hack kit ). don't chase no network signal false errors when you know signal is quality, it's the doorbell not receiving enough power to function properly 9 out of 10 times.

I had an issue where I tried to replace my existing button with a video doorbell (Merkury with the Geeni app). The video & app notification when the doorbell button was pushed both worked great, but the mechanical chime (a NuTone from the early 60's) would not work. It tried to activate both of the plungers and it made a humming/buzzing noise. The existing transformer was showing 20VAC, but after watching some other videos online & reading what happened to others, I ended up getting one that was a 24VAC 40Va for more current. That fixed the problem of the chime not working when the video doorbell button was pushed. Many thanks to my stepdad for helping me with the wiring & the multimeter usage.

Thanks for your video, I suspected it was the transformer but I tend to complicate things a bit. Replaced my transformer and it worked great I also removed the device from the doorbell. When I first installed the Ring system it worked great for several months then failed, I replaced my old transformer with a cheap 18vac from the hardware store, that to failed in about a few weeks. Now with 24vac 40amp I don’t foresee any power related problems. 👍

I have an opposite problem, I have a Ring 2nd generation (2020 release), it works great after replacing my existing doorbell. The problem is my existing digital chime now won't stop ringing. And everytime I press the Ring the chime would stop but it would come back again. I have to take the battery out of the chime for it to stop. I read somewhere there is something called a diode for digital chimes but it's supposedly only needed for the 1st gen Rings. And mine doesn't come with it. I'm going to call support to see if that's the problem and if they can send me the diode...

I had an electrician install a new 24v transformer into the electric panel. I removed the small white driver just like you did. It worked for a few days, with a clear video but I noticed it had a slight humming noise at the bell connection. Today my power went out for a few seconds, I noticed the pro doorbells stopped working/froze at two different times of day. Seems odd. The back door stopped/froze with a still image during the afternoon. Later, the front doorbell stopped/froze an image at night time. Geez. Early January 2023, I upgraded my modem and router because they were old. I’m still experiencing WiFi and router problems. I called the provider who told me the new equipment should also get a firmware update. So once the internet company firmware was updated the Ring-Pro-door Bells reconnected without any adjustment from me. Yeah!!! I hope my experience will help others.

There is a small 602025 or 602030 LiPo battery inside the Ring Pro. After a year I could still view the camera - unless I'm trying to answer a ring - answering motion still worked fine. Another year later and the battery is now so weak that my doorbell reboots when someone rings the bell. Simply leaving the ringer type as "mechanical" (which mine is) then setting the "Ring my in-home doorbell" setting to off fixes the problem for me. "Settings > Device Settings > General Settings > Doorbell Chime Type > Ring my in-home doorbell > off". I am, however, concerned about the dead battery eventually causing problems.

Had to double tap my comments with a few other pro tips. 1 - Enable Two Factor Authentication. The recent news about the little girl that was harassed by someone that hacked the ring was due to the owner not having two factor authentication enabled. All known hacked Ring systems were because of that. 2 - Under Device Health in the settings, tap the Voltage rating itself (i.e. Good) and you will get the actual mV reading the Ring is getting. This number should be 3900-4300. If it's too low, you are under powered and will have issues, too high and you run the risk of frying the doorbell. My doorbell is running on 24 v 40 amp and sharing the load with a thermostat. My reading is consistently 4000-4050 mV, and no issues. 3 - Once you are past all your voltage/amperage issues and running OK, install the Rapid Ring application on your phone. It is a companion app to the main Ring app. Once installed, it will turn off the Ring notifications to your phone and enable them through the Rapid Ring app. In the app settings, not IN THE APP itself, (at least on Android) you can customize the notifications (I like the dogs barking). When you get a notification from Rapid Ring, when you hit the notification you are immediately taken to the Live View, bypassing the delays of Ring uploading video and the extra clicks to get to live view from the normal app. This allows you to actually see what's going on immediately. enjoy!

Those newer mechanical chime doorbell use 16v AC, the Hampton Bay requires only 16v. My problem was my old house 24v (actually 30v) burn mechanical chime. They make tri volt transformer that do 8v, 16v and 24v to handle older and newer systems. A voltage meter on the AC setting will tell you.

Try checking the settings to see if the doorbell may have been turned off. Dashboard> Doorbell (Name)> Settings top right> Click on doorbell kit settings > see if digital is selected. It does really sound like a power issue is causing your problem. You can pretty much tell that you have a power problem the first week you get it. Unless the transformer is on its way out. Which usually cause lockups when you have a power issue.

I've tried hooking it up in every way possible. Sorry, for the late reply I have been in Yellowstone. My up/down speeds are really close to what your speeds are. That is a really good signal that you are getting at the doorbell. I'm not sure with your specific situation. The biggest common problem is the voltage drop that you get when the button is pressed and the doorbell chime dings. The voltage definitely drops below the required amount that the Ring Doorbell Pro needs. Once that occurs the doorbell won't work correctly. The original Ring doorbell and ring doorbell 2 don't have this problem because they have a battery. Since they have a battery when the voltage drops because the button is pressed the battery supplies the required voltage without a problem. I can say your problem sounds similar to what I was having with my Ring Pro.

So I bought a ring pro from a friend. Disclaimer; I asked her and her husband if they had any issues with the unit and both claimed it worked flawlessly. Figured it would work right away being a one year old home and builder offered this as an option. However I found the transformer was to small. Purchased a 16v 30vac transformer to run the mechanical chime and ring, it doesn’t matter if I have it bypass the chime with the transformer tied straight to the doorbell wires, it still won’t power on. Won’t power on with the chime connected with the pro power kit that came with it or the updated one ring support sent me. I checked and I have 18vac at the doorbell itself, so I’m wondering if it’s the unit. The pro has a micro USB port. Does this allow it to be plugged in and charged. Just wondering if the internal battery could be so dead that the hardwire power won’t even charge it. I’ve been fighting this thing for weeks when I have time and I’m about to throw in the towel and just go back to my plain Jane doorbell button. TIA

Hi 👋, I was wondering if the 24v 10va transformer work with a video doorbell that rated at 12-24v? Will it power both of them?
@sellgooddeals-DIY

The 10va is on the low side. I don’t think it has enough amperage. I think 20va should be used as a minimum rating. So that the voltage doesn’t drop too low. However, if your doorbell has a battery like original Ring or Ring 2 you should be fine.

@sellgooddeals-DIY
@sellgooddeals-DIY 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! If you upgrade your transformer to the 24VAC your doorbell won't blow up. However, the chime is designed to work with a 16VAC transformer. This will likely lead to premature failure of the doorbell chime over time. Ring does a good job of only sending a fraction of a second pulse to the chime. It won't send a pulse through again until it completes a cycle. So, It really isn't exposed to voltage all that long. My daughter would go to my mothers house and ring the doorbell constantly until my mom would answer the door. Now that is some real abuse on a doorbell chime. The best case scenario is to take the chime out of the equation as the voltage drop on the Ring Doorbell is very hard on it.

@@felixhunglee5436, I did. For me it appears someone may have had it wired so there could be either a garage or back door second bell. I'm not really sure. What I did is connected the wires at the front of the house and then used my multimeter to find the wires at the chime that completed that circuit (the other 2 had no power). I wire nutted the two that completed the circuit together and voila I had power at the front for the new doorbell. The yellow jacketed cable that you can see actually does contain two wires within it. If you are going to hookup the Ring directly to the transformer: The transformer has two wire terminals attach one wire on each terminal, the Ring doorbell has two terminals that you will attach one wire on each terminal from the transformer. Since this is low voltage AC it doesn't matter which wire goes on the terminals as long as there is one per terminal.

I'm not getting why people are spending $50 for a new chime when you can simply fix all your problems by buying a $15 (I got it for $12) transformer that will power your Ring Pro AND ring your regular doorbell. Your problem is not your transformers Volts rating. The problem is your transformers Volt/Amps rating. You MUST have a 16V 30VA transformer to power BOTH your Ring Pro AND your original doorbell. My Ring Pro worked perfect for over a year on a 16V 10VA transformer, using the red Ring "Pro Power Cable" which is a unit Ring sends out that basically connects the "Transformer" and "Front" leads from the original mechanical door chime (since my chime hums when I use the Ring "Pro Power kit" (the little white box unit). Last month the fuse (1 amp) in the red Ring "Pro Power Cable" blew. This is odd because nothing in my wiring setup had been touched (I suspect a Ring had a firmware update or something over WiFi?). I replace the 1 amp fuse and each time it pops, mystified I called Ring for support. First we deduced that the transformer was incorrect and should be a 16V 30VA unit, so off to the store I went to obtain one-upon installation, the same thing happened, blown 1 amp fuse(s), so I thought, let's try the Ring "Pro Power kit" (the little white box unit) and add the original mechanical door chime back in the loop and see what happens? Everything worked great, except the "hum" on the original door chime returned, which is unacceptable. It appears in your video that you connected (nutted) the wires that were for the "Front" and "Transformer" on the original mechanical chime together, without a fuse-Is that correct? And in my case should I be concerned to wire my Ring direct like yours, since the 1 amp fuses keep blowing out? Great video BTW, thanks!

This video is a little misleading. Not every 16 volt transformer is the same. Most home 16 volt transformers are either 16v(volts) 10VA(watts) or 16V 15VA. On a 16 volt transformer, the ring pro requires one that is 16v 30VA(watts). Thats all you had to do is buy a 16v 30va transformer and you could have still utilized the doorbell without buying the chime

If nothing works you can do a hard reset holding the orange button for 20 seconds on the back. This will reset back to factory defaults and you would have to set it up again as a new device.
