I have a question regarding this new adjustable output tophat..... I'm hoping you'll take the time to answer it. I understand having the flexibility to control the output volume of air to customize shooting different projectiles. I think the concept is awesome. But at one point in the video you demonstrate how to change to a new orifice. You remove the old one and replace it with a smaller one. But before you cinch in down, you pull back the breech to make sure there's no slack or residual movement (be it ever so small), and that the breech sit flush against the crown/stop on the tophat. By doing this, aren't you increasing the time the valve stays open when the hammer strikes the breech? I have a massively customized Condor that I have dumped a LOT of money into. I am forever trying to tune the gun to get it to shoot perfectly. One of the MAJOR issues people tend to overlook when tuning one of your air rifles for accuracy is efficiency of air released when the hammer strikes the valve. The old tophat (as well as what I can see from the new one) gives the shooter the flexibility to adjust the length of stroke of the tophap by backing out the .050 set screws and raising or lowering the crown of the tophat by turning the crown clockwise (shortening the stroke) or counterclockwise (lengthening the stroke) to adjust the amount of air released. Both ends of the breech have a 90 Durometer O-ring in them that expand to seal around the breech of the barrel and the exit port of the tophat simultaneously. Due to the placement of the O-ring, and the physics behind how it works, you have the flexibility to lengthen or shorten the stroke of the tophat by 1 or 2 millimeters, and still have the necessary components fall within the reach of the O-rings inside of the breech. There are several facets that go into properly "tuning" your gun to make it as accurate as possible. People focus in on muzzle velocity as their benchmark. Say for instance that 900-930 FPS is the sweet spot for the JSB 33.94gr pellets in .25 caliber. So people get their guns dialed in to achieve that velocity. Then they cannot understand why they get spinners and their groups may not be as tight a some competitive manufacturers air rifles. That's because even though they are achieving the correct velocity for the projectile, they are putting way too much air behind it, because the stroke of the tophat inside the valve is too long, and after the pellet leaves the end of the barrel at the muzzle, the extra air is also released behind it. This air is volatile and turbulent, and causes instability in the projectile right out of the gate. Fortunately pellets "right" themselves, so although the extra air will cause instability, the pellet typically won't wander too far for the intended target. But if you're using your AF rifle to shoot slugs, this causes massive issues, and massive frustration. I almost wanted to take a sledgehammer to my gun at times. I literally had to walk away for hours or days sometimes until I found the energy to attempt to tune it again. But I think the most overlooked/minimized facet of tuning the AF rifles in length of stroke. You know you've got it right when the sound of the rifle is a VERY short crack, and your gun becomes very efficient with the air it's using. By using just enough air to get the pellet to exit without having extra air leaving the end of the barrel behind the pellet (destabilizing it), the AF rifles can shoot like a LAZER BEAM! But I guess the whole point of me writing this was to emphasize this, since in your video you snugged the end of the tophat up against the breech. Since you are the expert, and since most AF gun owners won't invest the time to properly tune their guns, they may believe that this should always be done when changing the orifice out, which simply isn't true. But thank you for the video. I enjoy watching you on KZbin.

I ordered the ring log valve kit, but then had to order the tank with the proper valve. It arrives today. I'm getting pretty nice performance with the older high flow valve. using a .25 cal 18 " barrel, with a 52 grain NSA w\hollow point slug fired at 898 fps , I get 93.13 fpe. This rips a soda can of water apart. These are accurate. It's a condor ss. .22 and .25. Might just have to get a long .257 barrel ?

Question. Why not just tighten the hat down, then move the unit forward setting for no play? Then your only using the one wrench to bring it all forward or back. New to this. Thanks.

Quick question you say do it so there's no slack everywhere on the forum's say the space between the back should be the thickness of a quarter if I do it so my breeches nice and with no wiggle the space in the back is definitely thicker than quarter so do I do the quarter method what do I do at so there's no slack in the breach sorry just got a talonp and it's my first Air Force
@AirForceAirguns1
@AirForceAirguns1 5 жыл бұрын
Either will work, to be honest. We showed the "no-wiggle" method in the video as it is the easiest to achieve on the fly but if you are wanting to maximize shot count or tune the valve stroke the quarter method is a little more efficient as the valve stroke is shortened slightly.

It works with all of our current production valves, however, existing guns can be upgraded by either purchasing a new tank with the new valve already installed or sending the existing tank in for a retrofit to the new valve.
