Ring Marks When Setting Rivets in Leather, Metal Type & Size Matter

I tried setting some new rivets on an 8 to 9 ounce scrap piece of leather. No matter the technique, I couldn't set them without marking the cap with a ring/circle. The posts are also too long which created the post and caps to shift. This goes to show you that not all rivets are the same and metal and size does matter. Normally I use solid brass double cap rivets (with a shorter post). These new rivets are copper. The metal is too soft.
