This was most educashional, the diagrams so neat and the well modulated voice, made this very enjoyable.

Great video! I am going to try this one today.

There are so many possibilities. Besides only using the two voices, I also only altered the waveform of one of those voices (the other remaining on triangle). I guess that it makes a difference whether you change the waveform of the higher / lower frequency, or both. So many permutations. Plus, if square wave is in there, then you can alter the pulse width of the square wave (although I've found that using square wave alone isn't very effective with ring modulation, if you refer to that diagram I guess you can see why. Or perhaps it is if it's the higher frequency. I'm not sure.)

Did you develop this? It’s absolutely brilliant!!
@midi_in10 ай бұрын
Thank you. I did develop it, hardware and software. peacockmedia.software/midisid/ The real credit goes to the SID chip though, developed in the early 80s and still recreated today.

Clever bit of kit that!

Thanks Snorkers. It's a bit easier than doing all of this with pokes on a C64!

@@midi_in Tell me about it! I just wrote my own interrupt driven music player that just about works... :)

OMG pseudoFM synthesis on this!?!

I just discovered that my nord wave 2 has ring mod, what a dummy ! there is an option in effects labelled RM , it is a very nice ring Mod. My very first synth , a Roland sh5 also had ring mod, which was a little basic, on the nord one can get some truly great sounds. So thanks for pushing my head in this direction.

I have a box of 12 of these chips. Don't know if they work. Should probably do something with them or maybe sell? Worth anything?
@midi_in11 ай бұрын
If you have original SID chips, 6581 or 8580 then yes they're worth a lot. MIDISID will take them but I can't support that because of the age of original SIDs and because they're pretty valuable now.

The sounds you created this way in the tutorial reminded me of the C64-Game Wizard, though I dont really know if it uses ringmodulation. The fact that the game quickly mutes the first sound when another one is played might be an indication though, that it really does use ringmodulation since at least two channels are being used. kzbin.info/www/bejne/moLPaGd5oLd2o7s

You certainly can: peacockmedia.software/midisid/

Interesting demo, but for a video about audio, this is *far* too quiet. Please normalize volume before uploading.
