I am a licensed low voltage electrician. In CT it is illegal to run the electric wire through the wall like you did. If there was a fire a home owners claim could be denied by insurance. We're starting to hit a point of wireless device saturation in a lot of average homes. I've had to upgrade my wifi from a pretty nice but not too expensive wireless router to a Ubiquiti USG gateway and their AP pro. It was an instant fix for the random device disconnections. Everything is smart, everything is IOT. I have 30 wireless devices right now and that number is only going to be going up.

Great video!.... You mentioned that if your internet signal goes out, you'd be put in a "difficult position". That is not 100% true. The unit has a battery backup that allows the system to still call to the authorities if the power goes out. The unit also has cellular backup as well, so if your internet goes out on its own OR if your entire power goes out, your security system will STILL be able to alert the authorities in the event your security gets tripped.

The base is the heart of your system and should be placed where it's very hard to get to or damage. I strongly suggest you move yours. Same idea goes for your window/door sensors. Putting them at the bottom makes it easy for someone to push a magnet under when and fool the system. Better to place them on the side near the top of the window.

had my ring alarm in over a year now without missing a beat,you need to mention that your external ring cameras can be intergrated with the ring alarm so if your alarm is in home mode or away mode and your contact sensors are tripped then your external camera siren goes off as well as your alarm base station hopefully alerting your neighbours

The wifi is the primary signal but if you're subscribed to monitoring services, the base unit has a backup cell signal that will still monitor the alarm and alert the police of an alarm. Cameras wouldn't work but rest would since it z-wave connected to base panel.

A huge problem people are having issues with are internet connectivity based; it is vital to have a really strong and reliable WiFi home network connection. This includes having a high bandwidth AND a good router/modem that can properly support this with enough channels because we have so many devices connected to our home WiFi these days.

If you're talking about the camera, there is a "wired" version. You can replace existing security lights with it or run your own wiring to it. No exposed power cord.

Any security system devices having their cables right out in the open, means it's available for tampering or being degraded by the sun and elements. The power cable should be cut, then passed through the wall to the other side, the cables re-connected on the other side inside a J-box, then the cable should proceed to be plugged in where your cabling is most secure. (may require the need to run new power to the inside garage wall) From the audience perspective of your YT post, might I suggest you be careful how you respond to comments. Their input may be totally toxic or rude comments, but keep in mind that your replies are under more scrutiny than their comments. If you don't like the comment they posted, dump it instead of trash talking each other. Goes a lot further in the long run, especially if you want more subscribers.

@68Camaro RS/SS, I absolutely agree. This is not a bank or the like, however the elements will degrade the install and when you need that video the most, it won't be available. The point was not only to protect the device from tampering, it was also to protect the install from the elements and get the maximum life expectancy out of your investment. My camera system was pivotal in recovering my neighbor's trailer, when 2 douchebags decided to swipe his trailer. We had video of the guys and the vehicle because they parked in front of my house when they stopped to do the dirty deal. You never know when you need that video!

Really should do a review if you are going to try to say if it is worth it. You did a weird install of an external cam (that I'm positive violates code) and talked about the product in a very general way without reviewing the app, doing anything regarding performance, usability, or reliability. Also need to discuss features or lack of and what you get without paying service fees vs what you get with doing so (and how much it costs). Fine if you don't want to go into " vs other systems" but you did extremely little to address "worth it". The only thing viewers know is that the sponsorship was worth it enough for you put up this video that tells people little more than they can get by looking at the box.

hyphyp3 yes you can. The contract is for 1) 24/7 monitoring and 2) video storage. Ring doesn’t let you store videos for any amount of time without paid plan. Which is cheap.

I am not familiar with this system. But in my house, I also use security from Kangaroo. In fact, it completely suits me and I do not want to replace it with something else. I chose this system due to the fact that it is wireless, it works through a wi-fi network and has its own application on the phone, with which I can monitor my home.

Just for the record I do agree with everyone complaining about having the cable on the outside of the house. But... the thief would be caught on camera cutting the cord, and once the cord is cut you will be alerted that the device went offline anyways. As a security installer for 20 years let me just say two things. All this diy alarm systems are great for people on a budget but they can't possibly compare to a proper alarm system installation. Also external power wiring visible like that even if you paint it is a big no-no. You could drill a hole direct from the camera to the inside of the house at the height of the camera and properly insulate that cable with insulating conduit.What you do to the inside of the house is up to you. I recommend a plastic cable tray which can be painted.Greetings from Greece.

What is the point if the power wire is exposed? What I have done is mount the cameras inside facing outward so that it is easier to access power, hide the wires and almost eliminate someone disabling the unit! 🤔

High, with the integration to Alexa and Schlage Z-wave lock, I know that I can leave the house, lock the Schlage lock and it will arm the Ring alarm in away mode. Can I do it the other way around, arm the Ring, Open the door, exit the house (during the arm delay) and close the front door. Now I would like Ring/Alexa to automatically lock the door. My current alarm system does it today. Can the Ring /Alexa/Schlage combination do that?

Ring's major advantage is ease of use... past this it's an inferior system that doesn't have the level of durability or reliability of a fully wired PoE system connected to NVR and NAS setup. Setting up a system like that isn't easy, but it's way cheaper than the "best buy" brands and bulletproof. Usually comes standard in 4k these days... Ring and comparable brands only do 1080p... just my two cents.

You skipped over the mains lead very quickly. In UK, my version of the outside camera light comes with a sealed UK plug . I will have to cut this off and thread through the wall and then reattach to the mains plug!

If you cut the power to your home does the app notify you that your system is offline, or offer up any snapshots from before the power went down? I like the idea behind these, but without a backup battery and cellular line, you'd be sol. Even if the cameras run on batteries...no power = no modem = no images sent to cloud storage.

I like my ring however they falsely advertise showing that it opens instantaneously. it does not once the motion detector activates then it takes up to 15-45 seconds to activate the video to view. after its recorded it does not take that long to activate and open. the latest ad i saw today shows a person coming out of the bushies only to see the woman tell him stop and push the alarm, it doesn't work that fast or even close. . however it does work like it shows it's just that is so slow and not instantaneous like the ads show.

Amazon Echo operates as a glass break for Ring. You pair Echo with Ring and you can simply tell Echo you're leaving and it'll begin countdown to arming system. At least with Gen 2 system. Idk about 1st Gen.

I don’t think you answered your own question. Ring is so common that it’s value as a deterrent is suspect. People are increasingly bold to ignore cameras. Relying on the police to investigate when you’re not there is too little too late. I heard it’s best to not store valuables in the master bedroom and hall closets. Garages are good places to hide things. Anyways, it’s a good product to screen unannounced visitors so you can tell them to go away.

On comment on the dislike, If you subscribe to the Security monitoring plan for the $100 a year, the base unit has a cellular module through AT&T that f the internet get cut or disconnect you are still protected. The only downfall to this is you have no app control.

Yes, there is a speaker/siren in the base station and you can also purchase an additional dome siren for the system. We have a basement, plus two story house and the dome siren will be mounted in the basement once it is available.

Hey Mr. Build It, I have a 1550 sq ft ranch home with three entries. I want the system to be centrally monitored for entry and fire, and I want to be able to monitor through an app. I'm also on a budget. I've narrowed the search down to Simply Safe and Ring. I'm interested to know how you would compare these two systems? Simply Safe costs a little more. Is it worth the extra expenditure? If so, why?

I had also considered Simply Safe and Ring. The deciding factor for me is the cost difference in the monitoring and I like the video doorbell. At 100.00 a year if paid yearly, Ring is really affordable for someone on a budget. This is about 1/3 of the cost of Simply Safe. They also have a plan at I believe 30.00 a year for no monitoring but access to your camera footage for a period of time. You can download any footage also at any time.

I do not think that it is necessary to put a warning on the protection of the house on the windows and doors, the thief will immediately be ready for what you need to look for sensors. The modern sensors that I installed around the perimeter of the Kangaroo house are very invisible and the thief will not notice them when burglary and the danger signal will immediately work and send me a notification on the phone. And due to the fact that they are wireless, I can hide them well.
