Christy Ring probable the greatest still. All of us that didn't see him play only see bad video clips. He was the most revered player by all county player's and supporter's during his 24 year intercounty career and for decades after. He was renowned for adapting to different styles of play by opponents over that long period. I would suggest if he was playing in the 80's , 90's or today he would still be the GREATEST Hurler. It's probably wrong to compare players from different era's. In my time watching hurling since the mid 60's the best back I,ve seen was Tommy Walsh and my Top man is the genius DJ Carey. Others close behind, Eddie Keher, Eamonn Cregan, Henry Sheflin, Jimmy Doyle , Joe Canning, J J Delanrey, Eoin Kelly(Tipp), Mick Roche, Nickey English, Brian Lohan, Brian Whelehan, Liam Dunne. Joe Cooney, John Troy, Goalkeepers Damien Fitzhenry, Ollie Walsh, Noel Skehan. There are many more, great players. Doing polls is a complete waste, as players of the current era will almost always get the nod over those of the past.

Neither, they both had great teams behind them. There were better players but they did not have a team behind them.

club games were ferocious back then . jimmy doyle had to suffer more at club than county.
