Ringing is the root of all evil in digital circuits. You must deal with it or it will deal with you causing bad clocks, bad data, EMI, and noisy power planes.

Thanks for the great video. I still don't understand what causes under/overshoot though. Is it due to a fixed amount of current encountering a higher impedance (V = IR)? Or is it a property of the Gibbs phenomenon?

I'm not sure exactly which part is your confusion but I believe the answer to your question is that it has to do with transmission line effects. This has antennas in mind specifically but good info on Transmission lines:: www.antenna-theory.com/tutorial/txline/transmission.php

Source serial termination or load parallel termination. I have other videos on those terminations. Keep watching..TFox
