truly amazing heavy Taylor's ring from the period when they were at their best! :-)

I believe these are the heaviest ring in Wiltshire and oh, I nearly forgot, what a fantastic noise ;-)

I believe these are indeed Wiltshire's heaviest - and well amongst the county's finest - and I do believe a hohoho is required ;-)

As is always the way with striking a heavy, ponderous 8!! Love these bells, worth the effort and taking time over!!

I am glad you enjoyed his, they certainly are rather fine, like St Mary's back 8 (but possibly with an edge to them, though St Mary's are still a gorgeous 12!!) I must say I haven't rung at Sherborne or Adelaide - yet! - but I do agree Adelaide sound pretty fantastic too, Sherborne have good character but not quite on this level! And it got pretty hot up here as well, but worth keeping the effort up for the noise!! :-)

They are certainly pretty good, lol!! These are same sort of weight and date as Ambleside, both meaty Taylor rings, and look very similar on youtube, hopefully one day I shall get to Ambleside!! :-) I am glad you liked our 468 lower, they are the clock bells!! Was very enjoyable :-)

I rang the seventh here, many years ago, to a peal of Double Norwich with K.W.S. on the Tenor. Great stuff - fit as a fiddle in those days - super bells (sadly dimentia creeps up)

Simon you dun it again nuvver great Video, You got to love Taylor heavy peals and you know I have a special place for Whitechapel cause the old man was a bellhanger there, but he said Taylors for Tenors and Whitechapel for trebles. That tenor is simply GORGEOUS, well the whole ring is. You know they would make a BRILLIANT 10 and I think nothing beats 10 bell ringing, so well rounded I feel and not over complicated like 12 Oh yeah what is all the GTFU caper about EXPLOON please yes EXPLOON

That it would, and I bet if it was to happen properly they would be a fantastically good ring. If I ever win the lottery I will fund it!!

Simon I had to listen again couldn't resist the tenor being raised. You mention it was the 3rd heaviest 8 after Adelaide but Sherbourne don't sound good compared to these and Adelaide, again Adelaide are a Taylor job. Never rung at Adelaide but at least the ringing room is air conditioned ( you need it here) I drummed St Mary's tenor to a few quarters during summer and I felt like I was in Singapore on a hot day

Indeed they are. :-)

Simon thanks for the education re GTFU, would like to get to ring together when I come over next. Taylors have much more mellow sound than whitechapel which are more chirpy around the front end. The other big difference with Taylor tenors is they seem to have more depth and breath and more sustain than Whitechapel. tenors do. Listen to any good Taylor tenor and it becomes the platform that all the other bells play over if you know what I mean with long sustain..

Looks good and sound good. :)

It would be really interesting to have a composite peal of Taylors and Whitechapel bells with the front end Whitechapel and the back Taylors, say a heavy 10 or 12. I reckon you would get an amazing sounding peal. If I were Bill Gates I would just do it for the fun of it

GTFU - Get The F**kers Up, lol, its a shortened version of "Raising the Tenor" lol! They are indeed a fabulous heavy peal, which indeed Taylors specialise in, but while I agree they would make a superb 10, I love them as an 8, they wouldn't be the 3rd heaviest 10 and besides, I like Swindon as Wiltshire's best 10 ;-)

@patrickmeyer28028 жыл бұрын
+simonbellringer yes, really. If more big bells were rung like that, I think that I would ring more big bells!
@simonbellringer8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Meyer Nothing brave about it; the sally was too low and the tail end too long with the box, surely it's common sense to change the box to a smaller one or ditch it altogether? Nothing brave about it, it just made my life a lot lot easier!!

Patrick Meyer There are plenty of big bells that dont need a box. St Marys Cathedral in Sydney is 34cwt and a box is not needed
