So did John, Paul, and George. I am willing to bet that if Buddy Rich wanted to join them, they'd turn him down :)! They have high praise for Ringo. Ringo Starr is a left handed man and he did an interview where he said “My mother did not want to buy a left handed kit, so I learned the wrong way round on the set.” I have even seen him with a guitar the wrong way, too.
@18andlikeit
@18andlikeit 5 жыл бұрын
@@hewgrebe4771 there's really no such thing as a "left handed kit" you can set the drums up any way you want. Just as easy to set them up either way, it's just how you place the drums/cymbals. I think Ringo set them up right handed simply because that's how all the other drummers set them up, so he learned it that way. It turned out to be almost a good thing, being left handed on a right handed kit is what gave him a unique sound with some of his drum fills as he had to lead with his left hand on a right handed kit. I guess the only thing that he would have had to change is the rack tom holder on the bass drum to put the tom on the other side, but he chose to leave it the way it was and play it right handed. He could have also just used another snare stand to place the rack tom on the other side but he didn't.

Not only that, but he could also play extremely subtle and quiet drums. Most people who know little about drums think that Ringo is one of those lousy loud simple players, but he isn’t. He mostly played loud so he could actually get the sound over around 50,000 fans screaming. In the studio, it was a different story. He could play so quiet that you would have to rewind it 20 times to tell what and where it was.

The band buildup at 1:52 might be the most awesome buildup ever in their "Long tall sally" performances. It is insane to watch how in sync they all are when the entire place is going nuts. Paul turning to count them off, Ringo hitting all the offbeats, John driving the key change, and George hitting the solo is note perfect with a sweet bend at the end. Shows just how miles ahead of every other band even in 1964 period. The girls all standing on their feat at the end when Paul turns to face them is the cherry on top. Just nailed it.

@@danschneider9921 Andy White. Yes. Thank you. I almost wanted to say Jimmy Nickle. But he filled in for Ringo on the Australian tour. I suppose my sources are the same as yours. I've seen every documentary and read the biographies. You might say I'm a fan. I'm assuming if they booked studio time and called in a session player, they must have used him on more than one song. I'm a drummer and I pick up on technical nuances of the craft. Off the top of my head I think Andy played on; From Me To You, Twist and Shout and Boys. Maybe some others. It's been awhile since I've listened. Dont get me wrong. I like Ringo. He contributed something unique to the legend. But he wasnt a serious drummer. He even said so in an interview. ..."make a few bucks] with The Beatles and open a salon..."
