Hello friends and foes of Middle-earth and welcome to this sixth breakdown of Amazon's Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6. In this review I'll go through some of the worst things in the episode 6 and breakdown some of the many issues this series has. At the end I'll give scores for various elements like story, lore, cinematography, dialogue, acting etc.
As many of you know, I was not that optimistic about the show and many of my fears were confirmed as The Rings of Power seem more like a fan-fiction than a faithful adaptation of Tolkien's works. Episode 7 gotta be one of the most boring episodes of the season. Barely anything happens, there's no suspense and no real drama in the episode. Other than that, it's all very predictable and makes little to no sense most of the time.
[!SPOILERS!]
In the Southlands the entire area is turning into Mordor. Theo and Galadriel walk together to the newly spawned Númenorean camp. Elendil thinks Isildur is dead, but he's not (and his horse Berek will come and rescue him). Halbrand is wounded and apparently need some elven medicine so he has to ride through half of middle-earth to get help in either Eregion or Lindon.
The Harfoots finally arrive at the grove, but all the apple trees are destroyed by some of the flaming rocks Mount Doom spew out after the eruption (yes it makes no sense). The Stranger/ meteor man tries to cure the trees, but it takes time to work, so he leaves in the meantime. At night the three priests/ witches come looking for him, but Elanor tries to send them a wrong way. In return they set fire to the camp of the Harfoots.
The morning after Largo Brandyfoot holds a speech about how hobbits/ harfoots always stands up for each other (except they almost abandoned him the last couple of episodes). So Sadoc, Elanor, Poppy and Marigold sets out to find the Stranger at the end.
In Khazad-dum king Durin III decides not to help Elrond and the elves get the mithril they need to stay alive. Elrond is about to say farewell (Námarië) to Durin IV, but then Durin discovers that the mithril cured the sick leaf Elrond brought with him from Lindon.
Next Durin tries to mine all the needed mithril himself (yes makes no sense, either). Lucky enough for the plot there's a whole cavern of mithril right behind a few rocks. King Durin shows up and stops them. Throws out Elrond of Khazad-dum. He will probably ride to Ost-in-Edhil or Lindon next episode and perhaps cure Halbrand.
Prince Durin confronts king Durin about the mithril and the friendship with the elves, but it doesn't go well, so he becomes heirless? King Durin then throws the leaf into the cavern and awakens the balrog. And yes this is most likely the balrog known as Durin's Bane, though in the lore it first awakens in Third Age 1980.
