I agree with you Jenny. It seemed to me the elf you call "Lan" died when facing Adar. I guess Adar used a blade made of the same material that WoT Fain used. In one episode it kills, but in the next episode, the apparent dead person lives.

So this Numenorian chick Aeraeon or whatever her name happens to be is basically Gawyn. "You got my brother killed, even though no one saw him die and there's no body; so I'll betray the rest of my family to avenge him."

Does anyone think the test for young Gandalf about helping your friends or finding your staff/destiny is something like what happens when the women are tested in wheel of time and have to choose their own magical path over the needs of others (“be steadfast”), except here to find his staff he has to choose to help his friends?

Dwarves are supposed to be extremely resistant to corruption by Rings of Power. Even when Sauron wore The One Ring, he could not control dwarves like he could men or elves. He could only make them a bit greedier. There should not have been much if any corruption from any of the rings of power before The One Ring was forged. The Longbeard Dwarves insisted that Durin's ring was a gift by Celebrimbor and was never touched by Sauron so it should be as uncorrupted as the Three Elven Rings, unlike the other Dwarven Rings which Sauron stole and gave out to the other dwarves. (Note that all of the rings were meant for elves but they discovered his plot and stopped using them, so he stole them and gave them to men and dwarves instead. Celebrimbor then made the 3 rings without Sauron's help. He should not even know they exist until after he makes The One.)

Adar's HR department is complex and sometimes he doesn't listen... Sauron's HR department is his sword and it's swift. One of them is about the worst boss ever and Glug chose poorly.

I think in this case it's UR not HR - the Uruk Relations.

To be fair, Uruks should know better than to call their Lord by an Elvish slur that means "The Abhorred One." He prefers to be addressed as "Tar-Mairon," meaning "The Admirable King."

@@magister343 I get it, don't look cross wise at the evil Maiar. I just wanted point out that Sauron's complaint box is... rather pointy and sharp.

Both the King and his son the Prince are named Durin in the show, even though that could never happen in Tolkien's world. Tolkien was clear that Dwarves never reuse names unless they firmly believe that a baby is the literal reincarnation of the soul of one of their ancestors who bore that name. There were 7 Dwarven Kings named Durin, all believed to be the original dwarf created by the Vala Aule reincarnated into one of his heirs to bring their people into a new golden age. None of them were the sons of anyone else named Durin, because a Durin cannot sire himself and no one else can sire him until he is dead. I believe the show's Durins are supposed to be Durin III and Durin IV, even though there was a period of almost 2000 years between their respective reigns. Durin IV was a contemporary of the Numenorean Characters, who should not have been born until at least 1600 years after the last of the Rings of Power was forged.

I can’t tell if you are miffed that they had to condense thousands of years and complicated sociological and supernatural lore into 8 episodes. But that was a cool explanation. I didn’t know that. Are Dwarves Tibetans?
@magister343
@magister343 Күн бұрын
@@kathryncainmadsen5850 No, not really Tibetans. if anything I'd say Dwarven Reincarnations was more related to the Kabbalistic Jewish concept of Gilgul neshamot, considering that Tolkien stated that his Jews were largely inspired by Ashkenazi Jews in the Diaspora. Both the quest for Erebor and reclaiming Moria were very Zionist themed.

Actually Galadriel could die in the show. Her spirit would then go to Valinor to the House of Mandos to face judgement and wait for a time before being granted a new physical body. Most elves don't have to wait long, although Feanor may be left waiting for as long as the world exists. Most reincarnated elves remain in Valinor, but some have been sent back to Middle Earth as emissaries of the Valar. If the show chose to kill Galadriel and send her back, it would not be even close to their largest deviation of the books.

Fair. But I don't want them to spend a lot of time explaining that and dealing with the internet backlash.

Is Durin the king or his son? Yes.

While, not accurate to Tolkien’s work, what’s going on with the dwarves as we go into episode eight is that King Durin’s greed has gotten the better of him and he’s continuing to dig deeper for mithrill even though Disa warned the dwarves about the Balrog. So the king’s son Durin did not send the army because he and Navi (the dwarf with the dark hair) were in agreement that the whole army would be needed to defeat the Balrog if it were released as a result of king Durin‘s actions.

I did not mind the season. I thought there was some really, good parts even if there was a lot of mediocre moments. For the most part, it was watchable and enjoyable (if you do not get caught / pulled into the book lore). I thought the good outweighed the bad, overall.... But then the last 5 minutes happened. Starting with Galadriel waking up (with what looked like an orgasm, while Gil-galad creepily watched on) and then the whole Elves doing the "We are Marshall" or superhero thing... they should have moved the last Gandalf / Tom scene to the end and used that to close season 2. Overall, the way it ended the season fell flat for me.
