I've wanted to cover this song for a long time and I finally got around to it. I covered the sweep parts poorly on my instagram a couple of years ago and I've definitely improved since then but it was still quite the challenge.

Clean sweeps... and even without fret wrap
@RyuGuitars10 ай бұрын
A lot of the times I feel like fret wraps make it harder. It makes me have to get pretty strong attack and doesn’t allow as much legato

Dude I love your guitar. I had one built out very similar on the Kiesel website but I've yet to pull the trigger!
@RyuGuitars10 ай бұрын
I’ve made so many builds that I want to buy… until I see they’re 4k lol. The one in this video was used but I got lucky as it was almost exactly what I would’ve spec’d anyways. My latest kiesel was bought in stock and once again, near perfect specs!

Insane talent! What gear do you use?
@RyuGuitars Жыл бұрын
I use my Kiesel with lithium pickups, into my focus rite 2i4, and I’ve been using NeuralDSP’s John petrucci plug-in for all of my covers since around August. I switch between presets for the different tones in the song. Thank you!

Do you have any suggestions for the 3-7 stretch?!? Iv been working this 5-3-7 pattern out for about 20 or so minutes and i have small hands like you. Do i just have to keep stretching my fingers out until they get used to it? Iv been playing for 15+ years and this is a whole new play method for me. I really dig this intro part so i wanted to get it under my belt.
@RyuGuitars8 ай бұрын
It’s hard to get that stretch at slower speeds I feel but as you speed it up you can pull your hand off a bit and bridge the gap without much change in sound because of how fast it is. If you’re not already, I recommend trying in classical position too. I don’t usually play in classical position but for this song and a couple others with big stretches I’ve had to.
@justinbowen11838 ай бұрын
@@RyuGuitars iv played for 15 years with it sitting across my leg however I recently acquired a bc rich warlock guitar and have had it resting in-between my legs which is much more comfortable for me, a style iv never done before. Makes it much much easier to hit notes especially the higher ones it just puts the fretboard right in your face it's fantastic🤘🤘 I did notice however that I was much easier to do at a faster pace. I originally just used a metronome and practiced it at a slow speed which was really hard at first until I got around the 180 bpm measure. Thank you for the advice have a wonderful day 👍
@RyuGuitars8 ай бұрын
@@justinbowen1183 no problem! I don’t really slow most stuff down anymore when I’m learning it because of how different the playing can be at slow vs full speed. I only slow it down if it’s so complex that it forces me to haha.
@justinbowen11838 ай бұрын
@@RyuGuitars I have the same problem I just find more technical stuff much better when sped up however I do try my best to learn it slow so I gain the middle memory however after that I jack it up lol

Good job on your form. If you don’t anchor that picking hand with the pinky it’s likely to just fly off - this is OSHA approved picking.
