Helicopters have been saving lives all over Southeast USA, after hurricane Helene, flying in supplies and flying out patients, elderly and anyone else needing to evacuate, as there are no longer any roads in a lot of small mountain towns. Most are civilians.

The air ambulance is something I can identify with as there are two services near me. The air is busy around me with helicopters flying between hospitals and incidents. Throw in military, public safety, and civilian aircraft, it makes for very busy skies. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

2 NWAA HEMS Helimed 08/72 arrived on scene to an incident the other day. I was chatting with one of the pilots who was ex-RN where he used to fly the Merlin and Wildcat. One arrived from BLK and the other from Barton. He showed me his Airwave STP HT and the onboard Chelton Tetra radio which will eventually be combined with the ESN LTE system. Interesting stuff.

if you look at the front of the helicopter just under the nose you can see a pointed triangular fixing.. That is a very sharp pair of cutters and it is used for cutting cables or wires if they get in the way when it is landing

@Ringway Manchester Really enjoying your videos! I've subscribed to your channel. I recently purchased the eSynic UV-5R 5W and factory unlocked it. I’m primarily using it as a scanner here in the UK. Do you have any recommendations for a good all-rounder radio? I've been looking at the Quansheng UV-K58, Baofeng UV-5RM, and UV-5RH, but I might have missed some other great options. If you could suggest one, that would be much appreciated.

It is quite surprising how small the required space to land is for those helicopers... Of course they prefer to land on a field, but a couple of months ago an emergency helicopter landed close to here, and as there was no suitable field near the site of the incident, it just landed on a slightly wider street. It flew quite low over my house, I looked outside and saw it do half a circle and then land a couple blocks away, between the houses. I guess as long as there are no lamp posts and trees, it is fine.

Why is aircraft radio traffic in AM? and not FM or SSB?🤔🤨
@davewood4604Ай бұрын
Radio traffic is in AM simply because if two or more AM signals appear on the same frequency, they mix audibly so you can hear them all to an extent. This does not happen with FM at all and usually only the strongest would be audible. SSB requires much more accurate tuning to receive a signal with reasonable intelligibility, this would require someone to be a full time radio operator rather than selecting the correct frequency
@fretlessfenderАй бұрын
