Did you ever notice that the title screen for Metroid says: "Emergency Order: Defeat the metroid of the planet Zebeth and destroy the Mother Brain the mechanical life vein". ^ Shouldn't that read: "Defeat the metroids of the planet Zebes and destroy Mother Brain the mechanical life vein"? (What does "mechanical life vein" mean, anyway? I'm confused...)
@ag2023en6 жыл бұрын
It probably means that mother brain is the methaphorical/literal "life/energy source" of the enemies in the game.
@dooplon50836 жыл бұрын
the reason it was probably called Zebeth at first was because in Japanese there is no soft "th" sound like in "thorn" so they go with an "s" sound as the closest approximation, but when a translator is reading Japanese text they probably had to gess wether is was an actual "s" the original writers meant or the non-existent "th". For the record, it's ぜーベス in Japan iirc.

Rinry, you are something I wish more girls were, gamers. My half sister was a gamer when she was young. IDK if she still plays games now. Once when playing Starcraft, I met a woman who was 32 and a mother of 3. I played a game against her and lost. She apologized for beating me. I told her that she didn't need to apologize because she won fair and square. This was when I was 26. I have been beaten by many and won against a few. I am sure some of them were gamer girls, the ones who beat me. I am 42 and a lifelong gamer. I would like to meet a woman who shares in my passion.

You know, the thing about Robotnik/Eggman, I'm more attached to Eggman mainly because of Sonic Adventure 2. That was the first game he was officially Eggman in English, and also the first game where he was fairly competent and, dare I say it, kind of cool. The name Robotnik brings back too many memories of the bumbling fat guy that never accomplished anything.

There were a lot of translation errors in early Pokemon moves, that got kept to maintain compatability. Splash is the main one. Yeah its Japanese name COULD have meant "Splash", but look: it's NOT Water type, and non-water types like Hoppip and Buneary can learn it. That's because it actually shoud have been "Hop". Now does it makes sense why the above two Pokemon learn it? There's also the matter of "Surprise Attack" becoming "Sucker Punch", implying it's a punching move.

Dear Rinsey, Thank you for keeping us updated on the fast-changing world of vintage video games, with your lovely voice - the kind of voice that could make a drill sergeant hug a Nazi... before stabbing him. I suggest that you make video of yourself actually playing some games that you love and hate (and for longer than a few seconds) and giving commentary as you play, like a nice contrast of AVGN. You say you're no good at them, but well, video editing makes the world go round sister.
@IAmElectrospecter12 жыл бұрын
Also, I just played through Sonic Adventure 2 (and Generations, so I might be getting the two confused) and I believe they call him Dr. Robotnik and Eggman at different times.
