Ill be honest here, I believe we all demand a redo on the flame test with regards to the fact that they were not subjected to same flame exposure. The Genesis game has its board fried but it was spared any heat damage to anything vital (e.g.: chips/solder). On the other hand the SNES game was right in the middle of the flame and got both heat damage to both of the mentioned parts. So a better test condition would be exposure to a bunson burner in the middle of the board or possibly on a gas stove depending on available resources. Now that the serious part is over lets get to fun facts on why both of these should have failed: 1) The average campfire is around 900 to 1200 degrees Celsius. 2) The average consumer grade electrical logic chip temperature tolerance range is from -55 to 125 degrees Celsius. 3) The average melting point for general purpose electrical soldier is 360 to 370 degrees Celsius. With those 3 points and with personal experience, I can firmly say that as a college graduate in electrical engineering that there is NO WAY IN HELL ANYTHING ELECTRICAL WOULD SURIVIVE DIRECT CONTACT LIKE THAT WITH THOSE CONDITIONS. The Genesis game just got lucky that the fire burnt through the empty space in the cart and you pulled it out in time that it did not cause any damage or have the time to have direct contact with the hottest part of the fire.

Physical tests aren't really ever going to produce any interesting results because the manufacturing of the PC boards is the same, maybe with minor differences in the ROM. A more interesting test for games like this would be to test it against different kinds of hacking mechanisms such as hacking the RAM or the ROM, but that's kinda hard to do with cartridges I suppose.

GBA games are very strong, My brother had gba game and it had been left in his pocket and put through the washer and dryer multiple times, but one year he had put it in a big bucket (For whatever reason he was Six) and it rained filling the bucket up, He forgot about it and we lived in Idaho so during the winter it froze, at the bottom of the frozen bucket was a poor leaf green cartridge, and the bucket was too heavy to pick up so it stayed there all winter. it still works ten years later.

well, not to sound like a fanboy, but the marshmellow test was byas, as they did not sustanin the same amount of heat, nor where thye expoused to heat on the same areas, due to the cartrige position on the, ermm, ¿bonfire? Also, knwo that i know that they can endure anything, i wont worry about cleaning them everyday and just let them lay all over the place, i may even build a cofee tabel out of them.

But, if the cartridges were swapped, so would have the results. The SNES cart was clearly put in the middle of the flame (with a few extra seconds added before Sega was tossed in) while the Sega cart was to the side with only a minimal flame against it. This one should be retested with similar placements to the flames. Outcomes would then be identical.

You're SO CUTE! I liked the curling bit. That was funny. Did you actually do a laundry test like you showed towards the beginning of the video? I wonder if detergent would do any damage. They're indestructible! I somewhat disagree with the outcome of this video. Yes, technically the Genesis did win, but the Super cartridge was in a harsher spot on the fire, & the Genesis cartridge had a worse time being boiled. Based on those variations, I'd say they tied.
@Centella8512 жыл бұрын
Anha, that re-run of the footage on the fire says it all. The Genesis cartridge was barely near the flames!!!! Not fair.

It would be cool to make these tests to the current generation console games. Maybe you are thinking "it's impossible for that games to survive, most of my backup copies in DVD don't longer work and some scratches make the game loose some information". But the truth is that DVD-ROM and DVD-R disks are very different, DVD ROM it's much more tought, also, the scratches only affect to a plastic cover of the disk: scratches don't erase data, only made harder for the console to read that data, and also, scratches can be fixed. So, maybe the new generation disk are not too fragile.
