Rinzai and Soto Zen

In Soto Zen, we have great admiration for an ancient master, Master Wanshi. The disciples have to solve problems given to them by the master. In Soto Zen, we don't look for anything special, we just sit in silence and observe the reality. Master Wanshi wrote the Zazenchin, which was taken up by Master Dogen, who made his own version when he returned to Japan. I found a text entitled: "Advice on practice", by Master Wanshi. Master Wanshi says: "The self is divided into 10 billion separate minds. When you are in zazen, you can distinguish them. So you can observe all aspects of yourself. So the self is divided into 10 billion separate minds.
