Could someone with special knowledge on parallel bars explain why Beliavksy was not the winner?
@blakebenham31305 жыл бұрын
Kisma 83 Sure, so long as you don't argue with me, I don't care who wins, I'm just going to explain how the judges arrived at their conclusions. His start value (the maximum his routine could earn) was a 16.9. That means if he did a perfect routine, his score would have been a 16.9. That's the same as the American, and 2 tenths lower than the Ukrainian, meaning the Ukrainian could earn a 17.1. After they add up the total amount of difficulty (the 10 skills they each do), they minus tenths off for form and execution errors (things that went wrong in the routine according to the rules on how each skill should be done). So for example, the judges took off 10 tenths (1 point) from the American. Therefore he scored a 15.9. The Russian scored a 15.783 (there are like 8 judges all from different countries and they average all their scores together). As you watch the Russians routine, he just didn't have quite as clean of form as the American. His knees bend and he has flexed toes in the bahvsar (that's the trick where he let's go above the bar, strattles, and catches again), he doesn't perform the peaches (first two tricks) right to handstand, he catches with bent arms and pushes up to a handstand which is a deduction, and the last easily noticeable deduction is the hop on the dismount. Overall he just didn't look as smooth. It was more choppy. Still it was a fantastic routine of course. Does that help? The Ukrainian had some noticeable deductions as well, but because his starting value is higher, he could afford more deductions.

@misina2118 жыл бұрын
Twice he arched his back too much in handstand, but otherwise flawless. Too bad he didn't land his high bar dismount in the all-around final as perfectly as he did with this dismount in the parallel bars final, or he would be the Olympic all-around champion as well.
@markchan0068 жыл бұрын
I checked the COP and it said it isn't a must to reach handstand during turns on PB but a 0.1 deduction would be taken if the judges feel that you can't reach it when asked. In other words, the COP is lenient on handstand on PB. Maybe that's why Oleg got away here.
@markchan0068 жыл бұрын
I'd also add that I heard the COP is very strict on flight elements on PB. And obviously Oleg does very well on those. You can see that Danell and David's body isn't straight when they grasp the bars after flight elements because they lack height, but not the case for Oleg.
@misina2118 жыл бұрын
It may not be a requirement to reach and hold the handstands on PB, however if a gymnast makes a point of reaching and holding handstand to impress the judges, as Verniaiev and most great PB workers do, then a mistake made in that endeavor, such as arching the back in the handstand, would definitely be a deduction. Which by the way is probably why he scored a 16.000 instead of 16.100 or higher like he usually does on PB. But arched back or not, Verniaiev definitely deserved his gold on PB.

Wasn't David Belyavskiy's, the Russian guy's, performance more ... exciting/daring/difficult than the performance of the first one, American Danell Leyva 2:07 ? Why has he scored less 4:40 ?
@blakebenham31305 жыл бұрын
Maybe more exciting to some, but not more difficult or daring. They both had equal start values, meaning they were equally difficult. And the Russian had just a little sloppier form, like in the bahvsar
@xCorvus7x5 жыл бұрын
Could you explain why?
@blakebenham31305 жыл бұрын
δτ I did
@blakebenham31305 жыл бұрын
δτ they both had 16.9 start values. That means they each had the exact same difficulty in their routines. So it came down to who had cleaner form and excuted better, and the judges agreed Leyva did.
@xCorvus7x5 жыл бұрын
@@blakebenham3130 What I am asking for is how the two different performances were determined to be equally difficult in theory, and where exactly Belyavskiy was sloppy, or sloppier than Leyva. But I realise that this kind of analysis might be too exhaustive for a KZbin comment.

I come from the calisthenics world and I love gymnastics, but I'll never understand the obsession with the dismount. It seems like a gymnast can give the performance of a lifetime on the bars or rings, and if they flub the dismount they're screwed, while a gymnast with an inferior performance but perfect dismount gets the gold. Can anyone explain this to an outsider?
@ianmckenna61463 жыл бұрын
Essentially if the athlete has a flawless dismount it leaves a better impression on the judges who may be slightly more lenient on some of the errors that occur within the routine giving them a slightly better score but also the dismount can give the athlete the most deductions as steps on the landing can add up pretty quickly as well as deductions for having a low chest or arm swings etc

@ianmckenna61463 жыл бұрын
The lady who is doing the commentary has no impact on the judging, and the panel of judges is made up of 7-8 judges from different countries across the world and have to act in an unbiased manner, the judging is done based off of a set of rules that’s hundreds of pages long and to someone who’s trained it’s very clear to tell who did the better routine, even if it looks to a regular audience member that one of the athletes should have scored higher
