I like this style of table and plaining for the saw.

It’s a great set up!

I've never seen that set up. That sled system looks pretty smooth compared to a rail system.

I really like it! I also use my Alaskan mills quite a bit. Just depends on what I’m milling.

Man, that’s such a small log, and you are taking so much waste off with that chainsaw mill. What are you using that for? I’ve had a number of chainsaw mills, And if you cut anything bigger than that, your bar would move up and down so much that you would have nothing to work with. Those mills are great for just cutting some rough dimensional lumber.
@foxridgeslabs6 ай бұрын
I’m a live edge slab supplier and sell a lot of slabs in this diameter range. Chainsaw mills have more waste than bandsaw mills, but I also have milled thousands of slabs I otherwise never would have had. I guess I have no idea what you’re talking about with my bar moving up and down. I’ve milled 10’ long logs on this mill and the thickness has been even all the way through.

I sell slabs anywhere from 2’ long, 8” diameter to 10’ long, 30” diameter. I e built a profitable business out of chainsaw milling 🤷♂️

Excellent! I was just curious. Honestly. I had an Alaskan small log mill and the bar moved too much up and down. I bought a bigger one with 2 fixed points, and that was much better. I used it for chainsaw-milled bar tops. I love the look of chainsaw milled slabs. I will let them age outside for a while, and then sand down the tops to reveal the chainsaw pattern. So awesome, I think. I did buy a small woodmizer bandsaw mill recently, and it is so much faster, but lacks character.

Whats with the face mask?
@foxridgeslabs6 ай бұрын
I’m glad you asked! Sawdust is awful for your lungs. Before I wore masks, my lungs felt terrible after milling. This mask keeps the dust out.
@ryanv12796 ай бұрын
@@foxridgeslabs your saw should not be producing sawdust when cutting along the grain, or ever for that matter. Chainsaws make chips not dust. Sharpen your chain. If your saw is producing chips small enough to be inhaled, then your chain, any by extension your powerhead are overworking.
@foxridgeslabs6 ай бұрын
@@ryanv1279You are absolutely right when felling and bucking up trees, but wrong in regards to sawdust when chainsaw milling. I’m using ripping chains which and specially designed to cut with the grain. Chainsaw milling produces sawdust, but when your chain is razor sharp, they will be bigger sawdust chunks. My chains are always razor sharp.
@ryanv12796 ай бұрын
@@foxridgeslabs i mean usfs, worksafe bc and GOL out east all say a face shield is only required when milling or ripping planks or gadburys. “A face shield is adequate protection, if chips penetrate the mesh, resharpen until chips are of uniform size.” Even with a ripper your chips should be above half a cm.
