I had never thought of the possible oedipal subtext in the scene that sam chokes dean. That’s a very interesting analysis I would like to add my own interpretation of the late seasons, when Mary comes back to life. The way Dean antagonizes Mary and seems more internally troubled than actually happy she’s back, that screams Elektra’s complex to me. Dean effectively became the mother in their family dynamics, so when the actual mother comes back to take up the role again, he feels threatened. He’s compelled to kill his mother
