Not friend, crew-mate, Luffy says to Frank that he was taking his crew-mate back... I feel like a broken record at this point. Most of the time they mean crew or crew-mate, not friend. Specially in the important moments of the series, like Nami moment, or Chopper moment, or even when they mention Merry. Is about the crew first. Is a pirate crew, not a pirate friends (doesn't even make sense). Is not that difficult to understand, really. When you see people outside of the crew being call friend, those translations are right.

I know I just said this about the Jet Gatling episode, but here's another one that deserves a spot in the pantheon of all-time One Piece episodes. You can tell from the drastically different art and animation that they took extra care with the Merry episode. It's a testament to this arc that you can have so many legendary episodes in such close proximity.

It's not just a ship, it's someone in our lives that we should've cared for more or the things we could've and should've done but noticed too late, a reference to the people we've loved and lost that we should've shared more time with or helped out in their hard times better or told them we loved them as much as we do and someone regardless of our shortcomings they loved us to the point of indescribable. Damn was looking forward to the Garp reveal. I honesty wish they didn't add Garp to the live action, the reveal in the manga and anime is so well done plus it took up screen time and some really good moments were cut or changed. I'm looking forward to Thriller Bark, I know it's not a popluar arc but it's one of my favorite arcs.
