Yet Clifford Brown was 5 years younger when they both fronted Jazz Messengers
@wyndhl8309Ай бұрын
@internationalpolkaband8472 '55, I think it was, A Night At Birdland, featuring the trumpet 🎺 sensation, Clifford Brown, is a date one must remember. Lou and Clifford, with the Messengers, were bebopping with energy and passion.❤ The master of sax 'bop had passed away a few months - a year, maybe - ago 😢 "A Night In Tunisia" blew my mind!❤

I saw him at Fasching in Stockholm in the 80s. Such a great player and a wonderful entertainer and show man. Whiskey drinking woman was one of his hit tunes. He must have done it at least a 1000 time’s. Sadly he’s gone now but his music will live forever. Great version of this song.

Saw Mr. Lou Donaldson ten years ago in Columbus. He was playing and another artist was playing at the same time. Mr. Donaldson began to attract the other artist crowd because of his great playing, band, and history he was giving the crowd. Mr. Donaldson gave a Ph.D on how to entertain. My brother introduced me to his albums on Blue Note but to see him in person was the real deal.

First heard brother Lou when I was a young boy on Jimmy Smith's "The Sermon", and his solo was a sermon. Many years later heard Bassist Christian McBride interview him on his Sirius XM "The Lowdown" for the first time and his music was like his personality, Real. R.I.P. Lou and thank you for all the music.

[Lou Donaldson November 1, 1926 - November 9, 2024] Damn! I didn’t know about his passing. I just learned the passing of Roy Haynes today. Both Lou and Roy were just about the same age … 98 & 99 respectively, and yes such longevity (esp. as jazz musicians). Lou Donaldson was 1 of the greatest improvisers with a large vocabulary, but always hit choice notes and sounded very bluesy.
