That's fair! I've replied to some other people in the comments about the short dev cycle being the driving factor for this compromise. @@M3RKMUS1C You completely missed with your take on the Open Combat Missions. It's clear this game was meant to be a DLC but they made it into a new game so they could sell at full price. I could go over the issues that caused for both MWII's and MWIII's multiplayer, but because they suddenly had to make an actual campaign and didn't have time to do so, they just made a lot of the campaign basically Spec-Ops missions on the Warzone map, with little to no thought or effort. Normally, they make multiplayer and campaign maps in conjunction so they nicely compliment each other and are original. MWIII's "missions" were clearly just slapped on top of the existing Warzone map with none of that consideration.

Its not a problem that they used Warzone maps in the campaign, its that they dont do anything special with them. The reason multiplayer maps can be iconic is because they were involved in grand scripted levels of giant battles and cinematic moments. MW3s campaign doesnt have this, the warzone levels are open ended "go wherever u want" and complete generic objectives. There are no cool moments, no scripted cinematic sequences, nothing that makes the fact that the map is in warzone a good thing. MW3 has the opposite problem, where a lot of other cod multiplayer maps are cool because they are callbacks to the campaigns cinematic moments, MW3's campaign maps arent cool because they are mostly open and desolate in design because they were made for warzone, so seeing them in the campaign isnt particularly interesting or provoking.

My problem with MWIII is not just that the campaign is terrible, but that MWII made me not want to get the next game despite it being made by another studio. 4:59 - sorry M3rc but this is low defending of SLGDHammer. We know WHY they used WZ map - because they got no time for campaign to be properly developed. Also mp versions of campaigns levels sections are STILL separate files. It is more about spending less time on map development, not game files size.
@M3RKMUS1C2 ай бұрын
Wait, doesn't that also just prove the point that the Warzone map is _also_ separate from Campaign levels? I'd imagine that re-using assets from existing locations would still reduce the file size of the game. Also bear in mind that the 16 launch maps were all of the OG MW2 maps remastered; they would've only had 16 months to create new and unique Campaign and MP levels on top of all of that content. The more you think about it, the more you realize they didn't have a ton of options available to them.

Unfortunately SH disabled the ability to do this with DLC guns so it was only available at launch.

Come on man stop gaslighting us with this non sense. You’re better than this. 4:27 The multiplayer map is based on the campaign map, not the other way around. The problem here is the use of the warzone map is lazy by design (open combat) and don’t have the characteristics of CoD story-telling elements like it used to have on the og. Also, the story have no depth and character development especially for Soap and Makarov. Hence, the complaint. Granted, Makarov is back for another sequel, but Soap? Just gone like that? And no dramatic scene accompanying it? At least give us some fight scene involving ghost or price. Like bruh.

@M3RKMUS1C2 ай бұрын
What gaslighting? It's been known for a super long time that Campaign levels come first since they tend to be larger playable areas that sometimes need extra scripting for different events during missions. MP maps are typically portioned off, smaller sections of the existing Campaign levels. This is also very apparent from the usual marketing strategies; Campaign gets advertised first so it needs to be more polished in advance, then the MP and other modes follow suit. The obvious exception is BO4 since it didn't have a Campaign. I also covered the lack of drama, emotion and tension in the MWIII Campaign, especially for those big moments. I know the open combat missions aren't for everyone either, but I personally don't hate the idea. BO6 is going to have (some) of those missions as well, and I'm curious to see if the extra development time can prove that the concept can be great if it's executed properly!

I think the main reason we didn’t get much in terms of updates or changes to MW2 were because how BIG it actually was where they released MP, SP, Co-op, raids, DMZ and warzone 2 on top of upgrading the IW engine so it can be used by other studios as well so by the time they reached the launch they either ran out of budget (keep in mind every game including cod has a set budget and NONE of the game profits or in game item sales go to the studio) so they just did the absolute bare minimum in terms of UI or UX updates, game content and many of the other issues like bugs or IW is getting so big that they have management problems so when time comes for MW3 not only we were dealing with a bloated IW but we were dealing with a sledgehammer games that didn’t want to be there I think for MW4 (if there is one) they should definitely make there scope of things smaller by IW just focusing on making the paid portion of the game (SP, MP and DMZ or spec ops but not both) with Raven making warzone using assests IW creates like guns or game mechanics so nothing suffers long term

1. Totally understand where you're coming from, and I agree that games should launch in a more functional state! 2. I remember seeing rumors about Year 2 DLC, not necessarily more dev time. Black Ops 6 is the exception; 3arc has had roughly 4 years to work on it. I'll do some more digging, but IW had more time to work on MWII than SHG did on MWIII from what I know 3. I'll clear this up and say that, in my opinion, using sections of Verdansk for the Campaign levels in MWIII was a compromise due to the short amount of dev time. Yes, ideally, new COD games should launch with new Campaign levels that end up becoming new MP maps too; this shapes the identity of the game and gives us new experiences to enjoy. But we also have to empathize with the devs; there is a MASSIVE difference between having 16 months (MWIII) to rush these things and having 4 years (BO6) to deliver the best possible experience. Over the years, games have gotten increasingly more complicated and our expectations are, sometimes, unrealistically high. This is why some people reflect on the 'golden era' of COD and can't understand why it's become so difficult to reproduce those kinds of games/results. The reality is that those games were simpler, our expectations were lower, and the gaming (in general) was just different than what it is today. Sorry for the short story, but I've been thoroughly enjoying all the comments! :D

I'm feeling the same thing as you Eric. I might comeback to MW3 again in the future. But says no to MW2.

The nod to Cod online makes me miss it everyday. You introduced Cod online to me back in 2015ish (i think) and i LOVED it but i got banned 3 times for not being from china, it was an amazing title😔

the problem with raids was that, it didn't work. literally. me and my friends tried for months to get into one raid and we couldn't. everytime, someone's game would just crash, or not even make it after the cutscene

A lot of ppl go back to MW2, specifically for the DMZ mode. That’s about it.

My buds and me had a great time playing MWZ. For us, we enjoyed it as much as Cold War zombies. I can sorta understand why some don’t like it, everyone has different tastes. Also , LOVED multiplayer. Got all mastery camo’s done, just need to finish the ultra mastery in Multiplayer to completely beat the game, which I doubt I’ll do now as I’m recovering from surgery.
The game journalists lied to us. Modern Warfare 2 (2022) supposed to last at least 2 years in the cycle, while taking a year off from release a major COD title. Weird on how they reversed that. Good video, M3Rk.

Every year I pray that all three studios will work together to produce something that will be looked back on fondly for years to come. I grew up with cod and I'm sad that it's gotten to be _this_.

DMZ was amazing. Bring it back. Still getting full lobbies an ENTIRE YEAR after NO UPDATES!! if the warzone community didnt crush it for the slow movement it wouldve blew up bigger than it did. One of the most creative ideas to come from COD in years. Bring it back in 2026.

My argument about Soap's death being too quick is that I think it shows that Makarov is merciless and he doesn't care who they are, he'll shoot them just like anyone else.

I hope b06 gives us a lot to do like mwIII did, one of my favorite things was all the event camos and easy camo grinds like the weapon mastery camos. I dont have time to grind mastery camos like a lot of other people do. so having free event camos and camos that are easy to grind like the weapon mastery camos was the best part for me!

If they insisted on keeping the armory unlock system for MWIII, I feel like an alternative would be to have the MWII weapons in it for those who didn't get them carried over from MWII. Along with having previous seasons' aftermarket parts

I would never be caught glazing MWIII to this degree. I will not take this MWII slander, especially from a slide canceler. I bet bro does not play objective then complains about losing. 8 sec obj time on Hardpoint is wild.
