Ronnie Spector, the famed female pop singer and frontwoman of the group The Ronettes sadly died of cancer at age 78 on January 12, 2022. She had one of the most distinct voices in the world of pop music and her body of work should be celebrated for years to come.
She formed the all-girl pop outfit The Ronettes with her older sister, Estelle Bennett and their cousin, Nedra Talley in 1957. She fronted that group while the now-disgraced, recently deceased, and convicted murderer Phil Spector produced the majority of their recordings.
The Ronettes had nine of their singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 - five of which would become Top 40 hits. Some of their most popular songs included Baby, I Love You, The Best Part Of Breakin' Up, and Walking in the Rain.
The Ronettes only ever released one studio album, 1964s Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. That same year they opened for The Rolling Stones and in 1968, The Ronettes got to be the opening act for the Beatles on their 1968 United States tour.
Ronnie and Phil got married in 1968 but separated in 1972. Reportedly, she narrowly escaped that abusive marriage with her life - only being able to work up the courage to leave him with the help of her fiercely supportive mother. In 1964, Ronnie launched her solo career when she put out the single 'So Young'. The Ronettes officially broke up in 1967. Ronnie then proceeded to put out five studio albums after 1980 with the last being English Heart in 2016.
Throughout her life and musical career, Ronnie Spector endured much tragedy and often found herself caught up in a scandal. Watch this video to learn about her life and times while discovering how tragedy finally caught up with her in the end.

I worked for the Mohegan Sun Casino, driving Limousine. I drove Ronnie Spector , lot’s of times. She even sent me a signed picture in the mail. She loved and adored her fans. She was very kind and gracious . I am a big Fan of her and the Ronettes , . When I knew I was going to drive her. I would have her Ronettes , CD in the radio. She sometimes would sing along with it. She was a good sport about that. She, was my favorite celeb to drive. We will all miss you Ronnie, R.I.P. my friend

I had just been born when Ronnie her sister and cousin began singing. When I got old enough I discovered their music and loved it. I followed it from then on. Read about them. Ronnie and her sister faced adversity throughout their life. Her sister passed away in 2009. I have never had the death of an entertainer affect me. But I will miss Ronnie, the earth is a lesser place without her BUT HEAVEN IS A MUCH BETTER PLACE WITH RONNIE THERE. WE WILL MISS THEM BUT, NEVER FORGET THEM!

First of all Phil adopted the children without even consulting with her. He just got them without asking her if she even wanted to adopt. Then he threatened to kill her if she tried to get them. Yet he also was abusive to them as they grew up. He had the property surrounded by barbed wire fence and kept her locked in. She finally escaped barefoot with nothing else! He took all her shoes to try to prevent her from leaving. I read her book.

Oh how I loved her ... I used to always, always play her music on the juke box in the Beach Comber (our hangout in the early 60s) I wore my hair like her, oh I loved the way she danced as she performed -- she was so beautiful -- I wanted to be just like her. Even now at 72, when I heard of her passing, a heavy sadness came over me because Ronnie was such a part of my teenage years. I was about 7 when Be My Baby was a hit. I also remember Baby I love You and Walking In the Rain a year later, and I was about 8 years old. I didn't know that The Ronettes recorded I Can Hear Music, before the Beach Boys. Whenever I hear a song by the Ronettes or Ronnie Specter as a solo artist, it brings good memories to me years later as I am now 65 years old! RIP Ronnie and God bless you and thanks for the great songs and memories. You too Estelle Bennett. I'm sure you're both in Heaven. I love you both and miss you! Nedra Talley, you have my condolences, as well as Ronnie's family and yours. Please take care, stay healthy, and my prayers and good wishes go with you! I cried when I heard about Ronnie! Wow ! just heard of Ronnie's death today. 😭 My heart goes out to her family & her fans! My alter ego RIP 💔! I saw Ronnie ; [ influenced by Frankie Lymon the front man of Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers] & [ The Ronettes ] live all the time @ the Murray the K [his dancing girls] rock n roll holiday shows in downtown Brooklyn ! Be My Baby : the best song ever ! I watched , memorized & even taught their dance moves to group of kids in a show & at home as a teen. My ❤ is heavy after hearing of her death while listening to a radio program about oldies groups & their impact on the music industry then & now !💔 Here's the lesson she taught me ; after hearing about her tumultuous marriage to Phil the monster Spector. I learned never to envy anyone's life as you don't know the price they're paying. behind the scenes ! . As a young teen we thought wow ; imagine marrying a millionaire this was big headline news for black young women who were too naive to understand many adult situations . I eventually read her book " Be My Baby " I knew all that glitters is not gold . Thank you for that Ronnie , I will be playing your song hits all this weekend & more. You will live in my ❤ always & forever !😍 I almost forgot on 911 , I was on my way to work on the train right near the WTC listening to the Ronettes greatest hits on my portable cd player ; entering my workplace !

Thankful she got away from monster Phil Spector and still have a successful music career. She was a great musician and looking forward to seeing Zendaya play her. I think that is a great choice! May she RIP & will always be remembered for all the memories she gave us.

At least she was blessed to have lived in her 70’s (cancer is just that🤬) as for specter🤬 damn psyche!! Managed to live into his 80’s🤬 But the most beautiful awesome end to this, is her voice, her hits, especially, Be My Baby and my personal favorite, take me home tonight! For generations to come, She will be most remembered and adored with those hit songs and he will have been forgotten about. So R.I.P princess because you are the lime lite.

Zendaya would make a great portrayal, but of the cousin of the group, Nedray Talley, who she resembles strikingly. I always had the hots for Nedra; gratefully, she married a good man.
