The Rev had an enlarged heart and was told by doctors he'd never see 30 years old. M Shadows, the singer always dismissed the thought of suicide, but Syn the guitar player in an interview said he believed Rev had this all planned out because of that. Rev had been writing this song for years and finally finished it. He was at the end of his 20s and when he turned in the demo for this song he told M Shadows that "this is it. this is the last song. I've given everything i could for you guys" and 3 days later he was found dead. all of rev's work on the lyrics is typical of demos....usually it's a lot of mumbling and not refined work. it's just a demo afterall. the band decided to keep Jimmy's piano and vocal parts in. Rev was on piano and actually played all the parts for the demo but the band had to do some filling in and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) played the drum parts and Shadows filled in on lyrical work. on other some parts of the album his father actually did the drums

Thank you Lee for the absolutely fantastic job on that! That was the last song Jimmy 'the Rev' wrote before he passed. It was originally called Death. They used parts of the demo to keep Jimmy's voice and his piano playing in the song. He also had Fiction tattooed on him.

This has to be one of the eeriest songs ever definitely for them. Just knowing this was written by the rev very very shortly before he passed. You can't convince me that somehow one way or another he knew he would be leaving 😢

The Rev wrote this 3 days before he died and correct they used his voice from his demo in it as well. If you watch the actual released version the writing in red is where The Rev is singing. Correct it was called Death but they found this to be not appropriate after his death so called it Fiction.

They chose Fiction for the new name because it was Jimmy's self proclaimed nickname. I found that out at a meet and greet but already figured that was the case.

I used to listen to this and sleep in my college days and think about Rev and a7x. This song brought me so many nostalgia. RIP Rev. The more you think about this song, the more eerie it gets.
