I think both that story's OP and his wife are misunderstanding something. If they were originally splitting the HOA dues 50/50, the fee being waived simply means they each have $200 more to spend from their respective accounts every month. They are not receiving an extra $400 a month and having to decide whether to split it or not.
@krystalfloods61972 ай бұрын
I agree with you, but I’m not surprised because of how Reddit is. I bet if genders were also reversed the comments would’ve been different, but I remember that post when it happened and they were attacking him. I think of it as a job, he is doing the work to get that extra money. Even though it’s basically just not having to pay the hoa fee he is still doing a job. I don’t get why the wife should benefit from it when she’s not doing any of the work. A lot of people also seem to think that just because you’re married, everything of yours has to belong to your spouse. Well, technically reddit thinks if you’re a guy everything you own has to belong to your spouse. If you’re a woman a lot of times the comments are completely different.

Heck, the entire class including me actually created the high school web page/website and I was 15 at the time (everyone else was 16 and 17) which mean I was the youngest to help build web pages. Fun times. Then at 16 (as a junior) I would edit some web pages of school website and upload student bulletins, and update it via some FTP software. I came here a long way in technology, way before MySpace even existed. Oh, my free time at home was playing Grand Theft Auto, Driver, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, some WWF/WCW games, etc. and surfing the internet via dial-up. lol good times!!!

If the $400 HOA fee is waived while he's a sitting member of the HOA board, then the $400 that would have gone into paying the HOA should go into a separate account that NEITHER he or his wife touch. Because once he's off the board, that fee will be reapplied and it's better to have a fund started for it now.

When we bought a condo unit in a larger building, there was a COA to handle the building’s court and, hallways, plumbing, boiler for the radiator, etc. my real estate suggested the I should try to become part of the association board. They’re usually not a-holes to their own. But this building was mostly retirees, or a good number of students for the nearby university. Most of the decisions we made were like… the plumbing is old, and copper is no longer considered safe. We could either rip it out, or there’s some kind of treatment where all the interiors of all the pipes are coated with acrylic. The groundskeeper was SUPER passionate about his job. The previous guy trimmed some hedges really badly, so the branches blocked half of the public sidewalk. If we trimmed it back, all the leaches would be gone. So we had some talks with him, then just told him to do what he do. Pretty soon, he’d filled that space with some really pretty shrubs that coincidently attracted lots of humming birds. Since my day job was phone systems, I got to research systems for buzzing the gates open when we got visitors. I’m honestly not sure if there were even any rules that could result in fines to individual owners. It was all just maintaining out old building (some one was even looking into how we could declare it a historical landmark.). There was a bus stop by a corner, and when Uni classes let out, there’d be like 50 people loitering there waiting for the bus. Over the years, they’d gotten some other shrubs all deformed. Like a master crafting a bonsai tree for 50 years.

@@RipeStories while XP worked I was a fan of OS2 Warp from IBM, one of the few, I know, but for games it was the best!

The H.O.A, story. Yes in my opinion the guy is being a jerk.Yes he's sitting on the board, and he's being compensated, but so what. It's reduced the costs of living, which in a marriage they both should benefit from.What he fails to realize is her opinions are going to impact his decisions on maters, and as a result she's going to have an impact on things. As far as where you live, my advice is don't join if you can opt out. The reason I say this is that while you or her maybe on the board, is that for a while things may go smoothly, but a change in the board will shift things, and they can find ways to push you out. Which al it would take is a board vote of no confidence to go for removal. If you must join, then be sure to place within the rules strict limitations as to the power of the board, and what can and can't be enacted as rules. Then make certain that those are irreversible.

My favorite game of the 90s and 00s was Splinter Cell, the entire series 1st story: Just like someone in authority, see someone make something they enjoy and then take it away from them 2nd story: Friggin racist 3rd story: if you do more work, you should get more benefits 4th story: This woman was a nightmare. It serves her right that she ended up in prison

Favorite game? From before this time and only on time share computers available via dial up and teletype terminal: Collosus Cave Adventure and Super StarTrek. Much paper was wasted on those games.

Story 2 is a prime example of why you do not engage with Karens and you DO NOT let police in without a warrant, you don't even open the door to speak to them.

Doesn't sound like he had the option to let them in.

The $400 story could be easily solved by pretending the money doesn’t exist and put in a rainy day, vacation, college, new whatever fund.

Nta. The $400 is waivered, not paid out. There's literally nothing to split. They were both splitting that fee 50/50 so there's literally NO $200 owed.
