Ripken broke a cherished record the right way, with honor and respect for the game. He did it cleanly without drama, anger, or pettiness. Long live Ripken's record and God Bless Hank Aaron who set his record the right way: 755, the true home run record.

If one could imagine it, Lou Gehrig reached down from heaven and touched Cal Ripken, Jr. and said, "Young man, you are the one."

I remember watching this historic event with my two young sons. At the time, the only thing that disappointed me was that, in his speech, Cal didn’t acknowledge that it took a devastating neurological disease to keep Lou Gehrig from pushing the record even further out of reach. Other than that, it was a perfect day for baseball.
