It absolutely is, he comissioned someone to redress draculaura, with the same Hair Re-Style he gave a DRACULAURA doll and decided to cut "Dracu" out of her name, and to say "She has black lips because I was inspired by Lara Crofts evil doppleganger, and to then state "THIS CHARACTER ISNT DRACULAURA SHES MY OWN ORIGINAL DESIGN" Rodney has no damn idea WTF he is doing

He’s also got mad at MGA for not sending him pr for the Sunny and Luna 2 pack stating how they sent a black girl pack to only white creators which was wrong and stating how he would not be collecting Rainbow High anymore but then bought fantastic fashion Jade.

Gonna be deleting comments of people who clearly did not watch the video. Yes its very common for artists to sell merch of popular IP at conventions, that is not what I am talking about here, Rodney is claiming that these designs are his own and not meant to resemble monster high characters.... when you can clearly see this character is just Draculaura in different clothing, even naming it "Laura" While fanart is in a grey area for copyright infringement, Mattel usually lets fanart slide under the radar since artists at cons arent claiming these characters as their own intellectual property! The problem is that Rodney is now claiming Draculauras signature look as his own intellectual property which puts both him and the artist he commissioned at risk of being sued by mattel!

That's not even Inspired By. That's just straight up theft. I like the look for her, but I'd love it if it were official or if he said it's a fan project. People make money off fan stuff all the time. It's sort of treading through grey legality waters, but some do get to continue with it. But this isn't that, this is just a bootleg.

this is insane to me. do i wish for mattel to sue him: no. would i feel sry for him IF mattel sues’him: no. maybe that‘s mean of me but he‘s almost asking for it, like you said: thin ice. he can talk all he want‘s, the design speaks for itself. you show the character to a kid who is familiar with monster high, ask them who this is (don‘t even mention MH)… BOOM, case closed, end of discussion/tomfoolery. honestly, it‘s giving head‘empty. i just don‘t understand why. why is he taking that risk?

Its wild to me because I can appreciate fanart, but this is straight up theft of other peoples intellectual property, hes not just ripping off mattel, he is ripping off the designers who put in the hard work to make mattel a success, and to make Draculaura a successful character. There are a million things he could have done, he could have kept the hairstyle the same and just made a human character that doesnt have pink skin, vampire fangs, a heart on her cheek, and pointy ears, he could have also went with a different artstyle that wasnt so reminiscent of Monster High. Not only that but if the artist charged a commercial use fee for their artwork it also puts the artist at risk of being sued because they would have known that Rodney was planning to mass produce these neon signs and sell them for profit, if the artist didn't know and thought they were just making fanart for rodney then they could maybe claim that Rodney did this on his own accord.

@ the possibility of people buying HIS sign BECAUSE there a fan of draculaura is easy to see BUT people BEEING a fan of draculaura has nothing to do with him. people at mattel put in the work and… seems to me like he‘s swooping in, trying to make a quick buck. at least he picked the „right character“ to rip‘off🫢. i mean there is a reason mattel put‘s her in every line🤭

You absolutely can NOT rip off a design of an existing doll. Sometimes u can win cause parody reasons but even then u can get sued and lose. It’s not that hard to make a completely original design. I wouldn’t even blame Mattel for suing. He may have to pay LOTS too, like just not worth it. Would be like ripping off Nintendo. Playing with fire.
