The urologist may use a tiny basket-like device to grasp and remove the stone fragments, or a suction device may be used to aspirate the fragments out of the kidney. In some cases, the stone fragments may be left to pass naturally through the urinary tract in subsequent days or weeks.
RIRS is considered a highly effective treatment for kidney stones, particularly for stones located within the kidney or in the upper portion of the ureter. It offers several advantages over traditional open surgery or other minimally invasive techniques, such as reduced risk of complications, shorter recovery time, and minimal scarring.
