You're not the first person to say that, but on the flipside, I read in an AOPA article that military pilots are taught to set the reciprocal heading when coming off a DME arc.

Great video! Your descriptions are excellent. Only big mistake was to set the CDI to the back course. (CFII)

I love it,I was trying to figure out how this would work on a spinning ball and after watching this video it shows on airplane aviation there is no talk or measurements accounting for the globe,Rralize this 12 miles has alot of drop and alot of times there is way longer areas they have to view and they cant calculate any of it with spherical geometry.how do 99% of people not realize this.all planes level off on the 100% flat runway before take off and fly and keep altitude from following that level,if it was dropping on all side of you at all times there is no way ppssiball to calculate without spherical geometry.open your minds,I'm not saying anything wrong with the video this man has made.ots a great video,I'm Judy saying in general, like he says he wi fly directly there,not one time will he calculate for the ball earth,and how is that possiball? LoL I Judy like saying it that way because its impossiball we live on a spinning globe at 1040mph and we have planes flying flat and butterfly's just floating by.God bless

Very kool, Choi use to speak highly of you when he was VMA-513 DetCo. Your training manual made it fun when it came time to teach new SNA's (I was the DetCo after Choi). You should jump on and play ArmA some time!

Well that would be quite interesting! It would make sense for a traditional VOR, but an HSI will display correct sensing for a LOC only with the front-course dialed. I'll have to look into that. Again, great video.

Excellent tutorial. Did you select QNH or QFE from tower?
@riscfuture11 жыл бұрын
Yes, but unlike Falcon BMS, DCS A-10C does have a functioning rate of turn indicator underneath the HSI, so you can use that.

Hey ! thank you for your tutorial. Do you know how to display the knee board with your Approach chart and radio Frequancies? Or the game does not have those? thanks!

Awesome video, thank you! At 19:55 you hit the middle marker and go heads-up and you're aligned with the runway, but it's the wrong runway (approach is 34R, not 34L). Wouldn't a missed approach be wise here in any event? It looks like excessive maneuvering would be required to get to 34R.
@regionalcomnet11 жыл бұрын
I'll check all that then, didnt know..Lol. thanks Tim.
@regionalcomnet11 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, what mic are you using? Sounds like walkie-talkie radio. Very clear....
@SvenHazzel11 жыл бұрын
At 18:20 you say you should hold the alt until you intercept the glide slope from above. That is a big NO NO in instrument flying, you should always intercept it from below, the needle should always be above you. And also if you want to do this as you would in real, you should do a missed approach if you go over half scale deflection on your instrument as you do at 19:50. Regionalcomnet dont know if it has been answered but i think the reason for the difference in graphic is he is in 2d pit
@Flight23112 жыл бұрын
Thanks. In Russia they use QFE a lot. The barometer setting then gives the aircrafts height above the runway. Anyway, have you considered doing any Weapons instructional videos? Your instructional style is excellent.

For flying the arc just keep the bearing pointer on the 90° index ;) which you allready do btw ;)
@RioFalconBmsBrasil10 жыл бұрын
It's been a while since you answered someone here, but i'll try: I want to know why did you have to reach 160 radial? where did you get it from? Thank you for teaching us!!
@riscfuture10 жыл бұрын
The final approach course is shown as 340°, the reciprocal of that is the 160 radial from the airbase.

Great Bideo. I tried yesterday to do ILS approach to Ramat David AB in BMS 4.33 ITO and it was a mess. Few questions: 1 Don't you like to use the steering cue on the Hud? It makes life easier, isn't it? 2 Certain airfields in falcon have only 1 runway with ILS, and it isn't necessary the most suitible one to land at. what d you do then? 3 how to do you compensate for wind in the "heads down" approach? the hud does have compensation but here you don't. Thanks for the grid Vid.
@eddievhfan19848 жыл бұрын
+Rami Veiberman It can (and does), but I was watching a video by +Krause yesterday where he got nailed by flak during a night mission, and it killed his HUD and MFDs. He had to navigate eyes down before he was in sight of the runway lights (though he did perform a visual landing).
@riscfuture8 жыл бұрын
+Rami Veiberman 1. Yes, but proficiency requires practicing without the steering cue just in case you lose the HUD one day. 2. You can perform a circling approach, where you fly the approach to the published circling minimums, then circle-to-land visually to the desired runway. Or, you can land with a crosswind. 3. You find a heading that keeps the CDI centered and not drifting.

Hi Tim, in BMS if an airport chart in particular does not show any info on IAF at all nor an specific approach procedure my question is do I need to land following overhead approach in that case. I’ve seen charts that don’t even show turn radials either. thanks Tim
@riscfuture4 жыл бұрын
The only charts you should reference in BMS are the ones that come with the sim, in the Documentation folder. Some airports have charted approaches and some don't. All those that do should have an IAF that you can commence the approach from. If the airport does not have a charted approach, you cannot land there IFR.

For the holding pattern, how did you determine where to draw the line to separate between the direct entry and the teardrop entry/parallel entry?
@riscfuture8 жыл бұрын
+John Celmer In the cockpit, the rule of thumb is to place your thumb on the left or right side of the HSI (depending on direction of turns in the hold) and draw a line as shown in this photo: www.langleyflyingschool.com/Images/Handbook%20References/holds%207%20Pod%20method.gif Mathematically, that line is 20° offset from the 90° line: www.langleyflyingschool.com/Images/Handbook%20References/holds%202%20Sectors%20normal.gif

Great tutorial, I was practicing this yesterday, but I never actually heard the marker beacons nor did I see the light flash. Am I overlooking things? I entered the TACAN channel and ILS and I switched the mode to TCN/ILS at the final straight. Also the sound of the ILS sound knob is fully clockwise. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Cheers and great upload!
@eddievhfan19848 жыл бұрын
+Jurgen Van Impe Are you sure the base you approached had marker beacons installed? Some ILS installations omit them completely, requiring you to use the TACAN for ranging information.
@jurgenvanimpe64658 жыл бұрын
Kyle Tekaucic I think it was Kunsan runway 18 which has the approach above the sea so no beacon there. Worked on other places though. Thanks
@eddievhfan19848 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some over-water approaches may have marker beacons installed on barges or buoys, though. I believe Gibraltar does that, either as a visual or marker beacon.

Tim, i downloaded kunsan approach chart, and it has something different than yours, there is a little triangle between the iaf and dme arc, also there is dme15 and dme 20.. i don't understand this well 0_o
@riscfuture10 жыл бұрын
Triangles are intermediate fixes between the IAF and the MAP.
@GZA0365 жыл бұрын
7:35 Nah man, got the terminology wayyy mixed up..... the Decision Height (DH) is simply the _height_ above ground level of the Decision Altitude (DA) DA is for a precision approach like the ILS. When you reach that altitude on the glidepath, you must immediately make the decision: land or go missed. A non precision approach has an MDA - Minimum Descent Altitude. At the MDA you can level off and hunt for the airport until you reach the MAP.
