This song gets better when you learn that it's about the turmoil between him and his teenage daughter, and the struggles that came with raising a kid who gets in arguments and fights with him, while pushing him away. But in the end of the day it's his daughter and no matter how angry she gets at him, he will always love her and hold onto her. Amazing hearing Rise Against always talking about mature themes.

Everyone complaining about Rise Against not sounding like it used to... That's what music is about. A band that has been around for so long has to evolve. That's the beauty of it. Music is about sending a message, and they did that beautifully with really powerful lyrics. Open your minds to the new stuff, because this is ART people. Another great song in my opinion.

Artistically speaking, Rise Against had sharp edges which you had to be careful of, or they would cut you deep. Now they've covered those edges up with rounded rubber bump stops.

I don't know why people are complaining because I still hear the quality tracks with great lyrics I've always loved Rise Against for. Apparently, everything has to sound like Siren Song or the Unraveling. Honestly, it makes you sound like an angsty little edgelord who never left his teenage years if you feel like every song needs to be extremely heavy with tons of screaming vocals. Especially since Rise has always also lightened things up every now and then since inception, with some amazing and powerful results. Rise Against hasn't lost its way. They just keep reminding me why they're one of my favorite bands.

Shörlogg yeah, or at least, the passion isn't covered with a cloak of anger. It's natural, the older the band gets, the maturer and experienced it gets, the better (in this case, more passionate) their work gets; even if it means losing the burning energy that is typical of the youth.

I think what ChickenHeart36 is trying to say that as people (or in this case, bands) grow, they learn to channel their emotions better; adults still feel anger and passion, but their passion is tempered by experience and no longer driven by raging hormonal highs. While your argument is correct in its own way, a band (or person) that never grows up and stays stuck in a teenager-like, angst-ridden phase is difficult to respect. Rise Against was passionate before, and it is passionate now; but anger has a certain coarseness to it that can both add to and detract from a song, and what RA are doing now is blending that passion with a more melodic vibe, which some dislike because they liked the roughness in their earlier music and others like because they can see how much the band has grown. RA hasn't sold its soul, like some other music artists out there (they know who they are), but rather learned how to express it more beautifully, much like Vincent van Gogh finally began to paint the best canvases of his life in his last years; he grew into his best self; he evolved. And that's what RA have done. And I for one, love it.

I just realised something. If you listen "But tonight we dance", "house on fire" and "Wait for me" in this exact order you can get a love story with a bad ending. They meet in the first song and see how each other can cure the others scars. They fall in love. Then, in the second one, their traumas and scars start to emerge stronger but the couple still fights to stay together and heal one another. In the end one of the two can handle this anymore and their story falls apart. Its beautiful. I don't know if that's the case though it's just my opinion.
