Sure and just for better clarification: My thinking behind my pairings is to bring debuffs and skill damage. My commanders are very underwhelming as they are not leveled up high at all. However, when I am faced with t5 or facing multiple t4 marches, I don't care. Their stats will be nullified by Aethelflaed on top of high single and aoe damage. And adding Cao Cao as a second pair just makes this strategy a bit better. The only issue is my Baibars, he is paired with YSG and does crazy damage, but they get swarmed first (I solve this by kiting him back towards safety or to my teammates and then turn around to whoever chased me as usually it's just a single march that is left). I like Baibars because I often have to chase down single marches, I also brought Saladin for the same reason. Skill damage + debuffs, all around my marches do just that (my 5511 Alex is awesome too). The only march that doesn't follow this strategy is my 5111 Guan with max Sun Tzu. But I will say this with confidence, that guan yu with sun tzu combo is the best pairing ever. The massive aoe skill damage with rage engine is just crazy, plus the silence. I have 1 or 2 more videos coming up, this time you will see my marches in action.

Also, it may be important to mention that I prefer to stay on my own alliance territory since I don't have high stats. But if I did, then this wouldn't be as much of a problem.

5111 YSG is good enough. If you are not going to main archers, I would forget about it. Having 1 Solid march is cool and all, but what about the other 4? That's my thinking when it comes to expertise, I just make minimal investments into commanders while thinking about their performance. For example, a 5511 Alex is good enough, especially if you won't main only infantry. Another example is a 5511 Khan, or even a 5551 Saladin. Moral of the story, you don't need expertise commanders to do damage on the open field. Besides, they take way too long and if you are not a whale then it's not worth the effort & time. I know you hear "max YSG first" that sounds cool until you learn it might take you like half a year. Oh, and there's a lot of people who like to main cavalry so there goes your YSG lol.

I reread your request and if you're just starting out, I suggest going France (for Joan of Ark to farm) or China (for Sun Tzu & war/defence). I would prefer China if you're a whale and not going to main cavalry. But if you are going cavalry, then Germany is where it's at for the training buff. I think trying to max YSG first is fine in this case, I use him in my marches as well. For your case, it will take a while for the other commanders such as Genghis to become available, so YSG is the best commander to start off with.
