The violence is as Brutal as they come. And that's how it should be, enough with the so called symbolism, movies should be real and hard hitting and this one surely was. Highly Recommended...

@@mitchh200 Bernard O'Mahoney who was a member of the Essex Boys thou Carlton said they never used that name, But O'Mahoney said a lot of this film was fiction and there was no war with the Turks and the torture scene wasn't true. I thought the sequels weren't anywhere near this, they milked this story with the amount of sequels, The Pat Tate story was fiction, he's In prison and batters a fella with a phone handle then throws him over the landing breaking his back and not one screw sees it, and in real life Tate behaved himself in jail

As about as true as the Godfather... You really believe that the level of violence depicted in the movie is an accurate portrayal? These were just local bullies who got very out of their depth very quickly. Real organised crime is about keeping it quiet and not bringing attention - even the American mafioso generally dont even admit their own existence. In this film we are expected to believe that acts of mindless violence including a murder (along with the corpse being dumped on the side of the road laden with forensic evidence such as DNA, testing for which was available then) and the police never cottoned on?

There is a movie called "Freebie and the Bean" from 1974 with Alan Arkin and James Caan who play policemen. There is a fair bit of swearing and police violence. Whenever it came on TV in Perth (WA) they did not know what bits to censor! Mind you when "Blazing Saddles" was in TV the channel dubbed out the farting in the 'baked beans scene'.
