This British crime epic charts the inexorable rise of Carlton Leach from one of the most feared generals of the football terraces to leader of a notorious gang of criminals who rampaged their way through London and Essex during the late 80s and early 90s. Leach became entwined in a violent series of events, which culminated in the Rettendon Range Rover murders of 1995.

Can't believe this movie has a 6.8 rating on IMDB and a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie is a Masterpiece and probably one of the best Gangster Movies ever made. The violence is as Brutal as they come. And that's how it should be, enough with the so called symbolism, movies should be real and hard hitting and this one surely was. Highly Recommended...

Ricci Harnett plays a perfect Carlton Leach if you actually watch videos with the real Carlton Leach in it - you can give Ricci his well deserved applause for this performance. He also wrote and directed the Rise of the foot soldier 2. Easily some of the better English crime films to have come out in the 21st century!

@@VanceRefrigeration He probably means this is the extended version with scenes that the theatrical release didn't have and he's right, this _is_ the extended version but the OP is right also because even though this is the extended version some parts have been edited out. For example they didn't show the actual injecting of the truth serum into the mens' necks during the interrogation scene which you do see on the blu-ray.

@@mitchh200 Bernard O'Mahoney who was a member of the Essex Boys thou Carlton said they never used that name, But O'Mahoney said a lot of this film was fiction and there was no war with the Turks and the torture scene wasn't true. I thought the sequels weren't anywhere near this, they milked this story with the amount of sequels, The Pat Tate story was fiction, he's In prison and batters a fella with a phone handle then throws him over the landing breaking his back and not one screw sees it, and in real life Tate behaved himself in jail

There is a movie called "Freebie and the Bean" from 1974 with Alan Arkin and James Caan who play policemen. There is a fair bit of swearing and police violence. Whenever it came on TV in Perth (WA) they did not know what bits to censor! Mind you when "Blazing Saddles" was in TV the channel dubbed out the farting in the 'baked beans scene'. Edited: Fixed a few autocorrect typos (Freebie and farting).

As about as true as the Godfather... You really believe that the level of violence depicted in the movie is an accurate portrayal? These were just local bullies who got very out of their depth very quickly. Real organised crime is about keeping it quiet and not bringing attention - even the American mafioso generally dont even admit their own existence. In this film we are expected to believe that acts of mindless violence including a murder (along with the corpse being dumped on the side of the road laden with forensic evidence such as DNA, testing for which was available then) and the police never cottoned on?

I got offered a job in Basildon Essex while on my O.E( where the movie is based) in the early 2000s not long after reading the Essex boys book. Some of the geezers I worked with knew some of these guys, Basildon was a pretty rough place but I never had any trouble while I was living there.

I don't doubt he was a football hooligan, I don't doubt he beat up loads of drunken people working as a bouncer, I don't doubt he treated his wives like garbage, I do doubt that he was anything more than just a low end th ug.
