it’s probably because the translation just picks basic European names that are easy to pronounce. in the original Chinese version, they have normal Chinese names. it’s pretty common in translations of these little drama series.

It’s not that English speakers are dumb (although comments like these make me wonder…) culturally, Asians have two names: traditional names and English names. It’s normal… South Americans used to also, (some still do). It’s completely normal in their countries. Subtitles are in English, so they use the English name for the character. Stop making things about yourself and understand others culture more.

It's very likely a translation thing here because on Facebook where they are running clips of this the English names are completely different - so now that would mean they have two English first names and two English last names as part of their culture, and I know that's wrong.
