Rise of the Ronin - 9 Weapon types Movesets (preview)

Also, not every weapons were shown so far (which one of them was fist and probably staff from preorder bonus so stay tune for that). Overall, the combat seems promising enough to recognize a Team Ninja game: a good action gameplay!
Combat Style system
The combination of weapon types and styles changes the compatibility with the enemy.
Various Japanese and Western melee weapons, such as swords, spears, double blades, and even bayonets and sabers, are available, with different characteristics and attack actions. In addition, the main character learns new "styles" by deepening his relationships with the characters he meets. Even with the same weapon type, the attacks change depending on the school, allowing players to enjoy a rich variety of sword-fighting action.
Schools are classified into three types: "Heaven," "Earth," and "Man," and the affinity between them occurs depending on the weapon used by the enemy. For example, the "Mumyo-ryu" school, classified as "Hito", is at a disadvantage against the enemy's big sword, while the "Hokushin Itto-ryu" school, classified as "Ji", has an affinity advantage. As you battle your foes, knowing which one of the three combat styles, Ten (Sky), Chi (Earth), and Jin (Human), is advantageous against their weapons and can help you gain the upper hand in battle-and parrying them with the proper combat style will knock them back significantly.

@@joesheridan9451 other, better studios either keep the same quality or improve upon reused assets, mechanics and animations, whereas Team NinJOKE makes them WORSE! Also I'm "loving" the atrocious AI, people getting stuff on invisible walls, horrendous pop-in, one-dimensional (White Goat was literally trying to walk into a run after opening the door but was unable to due to an invisible wall..) corridors barricaded with lazily piled up stuff, doors that lead to.. you guessed, barricaded stuff, repetitive combat, repetitive enemy design, laughable animations and hitlag, reactions from getting hit.. 70 bucks, everyone! Quadruple A game price for AA PS3 level of quality xD

They seems to go back to the Nioh roots more than Wo Long which automatically makes this my most anticipated game of the year.

Wo long was more Dynasty Warrior than Nioh anyway. The qi system made sense. This is more Nioh rooted because it's more realistically historic. There's less super power abilities and just straight up swordsmanship and techniques

Theres dual swords... and an Odachi!!! :') It looked too similar to Wo Long:Fallen Dynasty for me. I like Nioh 2 & Sekiro, but Wo Long wasn't cutting it for me.

Interesting to see what is new vs reused vs actually improved. Interesting that they differentiated saber and scimitar. In most games, those would just be cosmetic changes for sword.

I saw a distinct reason for that. The scimitar had a long tassel at the pommel that at one point the MC grabbed onto and swung the sword around by it for extra reach while mid-combo. Saber has no tassel, so it gets the difference in combat style.

It's funny, people have been modding in a lot of devil may cry into elden ring. All that effort when they could just play Nioh.

And then it's still not even close to being dmc, which is the sad part. Would need to retool the entire game, to make the weapons have much more than a single string, and enemies would also need major touchups as well.

@@Shinstrikex Yeah. Personally I think fromsoft games are overrated. They go all on spectacle the last few and the gameplay is too simple and boring as a result. As well as relying on cheap tactics like input reading and delaying the string. Wo Long was awful, so I'm worried about bad influences in Rise of Ronin. Team Ninja are at their best when they do their own thing rather than imitate Fromsoft.

@@normalguycapwell i think its because they are simple they have that wide appeal. Team ninja games offer "exploration" of options, and most of the time players cant handle that. As for Wo Long i agree the launch was mid but you should consider giving it another visit at some point, game is way better after updates. not Nioh quality, tho not many hit that stage to begin with but pretty fun

@@Shinstrikex Yeah, souls games are mainstream now and have to dumb down to appeal to everyone. It's easier to make something pretty than fun/good. The Wo Long launch was way below mid considering they advertised it as "from the makers of Nioh" and that was clearly false. When they said that they only meant the literal company name of Team Ninja. It was the director's first game ever and it showed. It was beyond bad and frankly a disgrace given the lies peddled and the poor reskinning of so much from Nioh. The real crew worked on Rise of Ronin. There was no Kou Shibasawa producer either. Right, I had heard Wo Long became okay after DLC2 but I put in too much at the beginning like a good consumer to come back. They traded in on their name and rep to sell Wo Long. Can't trust them now. The game wasn't ready at launch by any stretch and I'm under no obligation to return now that the game only became tolerable many months after launch. They even screwed up the weapon skills. They thought switching them meant just the button inputs. Took them ages to fix/add something that basic. And they'll never fix the pvp which I know is still a joke. And I'd have to buy the dlc which I won't do of course. Wo Long was a deception and no one should forgive them and now a skeptical eye has to be on them in the future. Rise of Ronin has some red flags already to be honest. To come back to Wo Long like an abused housewife makes the player look like a fool. They should have been professionals and it should have been decent at the beginning. They didn't fix it until half a year later at minimum. That's bad no matter what.

@@normalguycapUnderstandable. i still think its worth retrying , and while Team ninja was behind it, you have to also remember it also had some fromsoft staff like the bloodborne dude. at the very least i attribute its mid-ness to fromsoft. but now? longsword is one of the most fun weapons i ever played with in a game, and they also made Whip a ton of fun. Cestus is good fun as well. i think Game Pass + Fromsoft hit it at launch but believe me when i say it's a solid ass game now.

Fuck.. I was so down on this game after Wo Long but it's giving me so much hope recently, these attacks look so much fun and not nearly as 'pointless'/spammy (except Scimitar) as Wo Longs weapons. Hokushin Katana easily my favourite so far
