This game is actually awesome. Heard some negative stuff, but took the plunge regardless due to being one of my favorite developers. This is easier going then their usual games tbh, but. It was a very decent effort going for a single player open world. The combat is satisfying.

well the variety seems small but when any enemy can wield any weapon and can have any of the stances etc, the complexity of variety in the fights is pretty satisfying imo. although i really miss the large roster of yokai and monsters etc from nioh and stranger of paradise

The bosses were probably the worst part of the game. Everything else was great. Team Ninja's usually good about programming their AI to utilize the combat mechanics with great skill to challenge the player, but for some reason in this game they got lazy and decided to have artificial difficulty do all the work. From Bosses having vastly unreasonable ki pools to hyper armor and being able to ignore any and all stagger to combo you through your strikes while eating everything. A lot of enemy attacks are un-dodgeable as well and often times you find yourself just having to eat the damage because enemy mortal skills will home in on you regardless of where you are and there are no invincibility frames. A lot of the bosses come down to counter sparking, attacking with one or two sword strikes, and going back to counter sparking. You can't block bosses because of their enormous ki pools, and they will be able to combo long after you're ki pool is drained from blocking. Some of them are so aggressive and attack so relentlessly that the animation for counter spark can't keep up and it's literally impossible to counter spark enough of their combo to maintain your ki bar. I can't remember the last time I saw the AI use a blade flash either, rather than program the Ai to utilize the combat system they just took short cuts and basically gave it hacks. It's a lot like fighting people online who use hacks, they suck, but it doesn't matter because they have such a massive advantage over you. That is not how you design a game.
