The view of James making those carving turns on the groomer was awesome. Always good to blast down clear runs like that. Yes I was envious 😢 Oh no…another fall! There’s truth in the saying that, if you don’t fall now and then, you’re not trying hard enough!

1:30 First day on my new skis, I made an awkward turn on a steep bumpy tree run, slammed down hard into a rut, one ski popped off and my shin slammed straight down into the ski. Sliced straight through my pants, long johns, thick ski sock and split my skin open down to the bone. I was like "well, at least the salomon factory really sharpens their edges"

Full time "East" skier here, and have looooved my Kastle FX84's 176mm (6' 165lbs) since 2014. They're quick, versatile, and playful for big bumps and trees, grippy and stable on fast hard pack and ice, but sink a bit on those truly big powder days on gnarly ungrooomed stuff. How would these new Enforcers compare? Would the 89's be the right width for the East to not compromise too much on quickness and turn radius in nasty big bumps, or would it even make sense to jump to the 94's for deeper stuff in trees on those magical days?
@riseandalpine
@riseandalpine 11 ай бұрын
I'm always a fan of optimizing for those magical days. My daily driver is typically a 110+mm ski, but I'm in the west. i think the 94's would be a sick size for the east.

@@riseandalpine THANK YOU for your content - love the vids - kept me sane while healing a meniscus tear!!!! Would you still say that your daily driver is 110+mm? Because you ski the Enforcer 99 prototype (2025 Enforcer 99) in most of your videos?? I’m an east coast adv/expert, 5’7” 170lb, and ski front/side and off-piste when out west (Whistler/Banff) and I’m thinking of getting the ’25 Enforcer 99 as my west coast 1 SQVR (POW and no POW days) … or would you suggest the ’25 Enforcer 104? Great review! Those look like some fun skis! I have a question which is decidedly old school. I’ve got a set of straight 190cm elons from back in the day. They have Solomon 757 bindings, and I’ve got an old but barely used set of Nordica boots. Just for poops and giggles, if I were to find a set of decent parabolic skis in the 170-180 cm range for a good price, is there any reason I shouldn’t mount my 757s on the skis? I know the bindings and boots are old school, but other than vanity, I can’t see why I shouldn’t go that route. I hate to spend money on something when what I have already does the job. Your thoughts! And thanks for another great vid! I’m 62, haven’t skied in years, but have been considering my options should I decide to get back in to it. Btw, I think you’re on the verge of going big time on KZbin. You’re production quality and genuine friendly attitude are infectious. Your skiing is top shelf! I’ve turned my snowboarder son on to your channel. Keep kicking ass! 🤙
@riseandalpine
@riseandalpine 11 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for all the kind words. Stoked you've got your son tuning in as well. As long as you think they bindings have reasonable integrity I wouldn't see a reason not to run them. Bindings can last forever but you don't really know they've gone bad until they start pre releasing. You might run into trouble at the shop though. Most ski store techs won't work on anything that is older than 6 years or something for liability reasons. It's super annoying tbh and I think it's a bit of a scheme to sell more new bindings. I'm sure a mom and pop/local shop would be willing to help you out. Some places can even run a stress test on em' to make sure they are safe to go. My recommendation would be to keep your boots if they are comfortable and look for a used ski/binding combo online. People sell some super affordable used gear on marketplace and sometimes it happens to be cheaper than the cost of getting skis remounted and tuned!

It looks like the 89 is not that different from the old 88, which I'm really happy about. I was just the other day thinking that they might ruin the 88 if they would to the the same tail lift like with the 99 / Proto. Being an 88 skier I can very happily do 90% of the days on piste here.

Aside from slightly easier turning at slower speeds how would you compare the 100 to the 99. I am on the 100s and I love them, such an easy ski for varied terrain and I read another view that the 99s are more "skiddy" than the 100s and I really like the stability of the 100s. My lightweight powder skis are "skiddy" in more firm conditions and I feel the 100s just are almost fool proof on varied conditions. Where I live and ski (Mt Bachelor) you can go from wind blown powder to crispy hardpack and the enforcers just thrive there. I would hate to see such an amazing ski lose stability in the favor of tree skiing where they have the Unleashed to handle that terrain. I wonder if there is much of a difference between the Unleashed and the Enforcer now.
@riseandalpine
@riseandalpine 10 ай бұрын
Hey Ed, I still find the new 99 to be quite stiff and stable. I find you get a little more playfulness and energy in your turns with the new cut. It also makes the ski a touch more approachable for people who aren't at an expert level. The new 99's are definitely not skiddy in my experience and require you to be frontside, which often frustrates me going off piste when I want to ski creatively in trees. If you have a 100 that you like, I wouldn't say there's any need to upgrade until you completely wreck them, but you'll be just as stoked with the new cut of the 99.
