बॉरिस जॉनसन के इस्तीफे के बाद ब्रिटेन में प्रधानमंत्री पद के लिए पिछले एक महीने से जारी रेस सोमवार को खत्म हो गई. इस रेस की शुरूआत में कई उम्मीदवार थे लेकर अंत तक आते-आते भारतीय मूल के पूर्व वित्त मंत्री ऋषि सुनक और ब्रिटेन की विदेश मंत्री कंजरवेटिव पार्टी की लिज ट्रस के बीच मुकाबला फंस गया था. आखिर में लिज ने ऋषि सुनक को करीब 21 हजार वोटों से हराकर ब्रिटेन की प्रधानमंत्री की कुर्सी पर काबिज हो गईं. लिज बोरिस जॉनसन की जगह लेंगी. ट्रस ब्रिटेन की तीसरी महिला पीएम होंगी. इसके साथ ही, 10 डाउनिंग स्ट्रीट में शीर्ष पद संभालने के लिए सुनक का ऐतिहासिक अभियान खत्म हो गया। चुनाव में सुनक को 60,399 वोट जबकि ट्रस को 81,326 वोट मिले. वहीं लिज की जीत के बात इस बात की चर्चा है कि कंजर्वेटिव पार्टी के ज्यादातर सांसद सुनक के फेवर में थे. बोरिस जॉनसन के इस्तीफे के बाद सुनक ने सबसे पहले प्रधानमंत्री पद का दावा ठोका. ‘रेडी फॉर ऋषि’ केम्पेन से बढ़त बनाई. साजिद जाविद, नदीम जवाहिरी और आखिर में मॉरडेंट रेस से बाहर हुईं. ट्रस रेस में सबसे आखिर में शामिल हुईं और वक्त के साथ सबसे आगे निकल गईं. आखिर वो क्या कारण थे कि शुरुआत में आगे चलने वाले तगड़े दावेदार सुनक आखिर क्यों हार गए?

There is lot of difference between RSunak & Sonia, to start with Sonia is italian born, who became Indian, mainly to pursue hereditary political career after Indira Gandhi assassination because India wikk not allow dual nationality she did not give up italian nationality to adapt indian nationality until it became inevitable. Sunak is born in britain. Indian origin but not indian born. His loyalty will always be to Britain, unlike Sonia. However as per our constitution she could become p.m now, although it would not be possible for a naturalized citizen to become U.S. President as per their constitution. Some very famous examples are there who became U.S. state head, but could not run for president post.

I live in UK over forty years. The mindset of the old generation and the youngsters is completely different and opposite. Otherwise Sunak couldn't have made as a front runner. All the MP s overwhelmingly voted in favour of him. It's just at party level he lost out. But his grip , understanding on current situation of economy is widely recognised. I would call it a sheer bad luck. He may be very rich but believe me people who know him say he is very down to earth person.
