in 1995 I was pre-riding the Mt. Snow World cup course as a junior. The roots were a bark-less white and the forest was like a sauna. We were bouncing around on our hardtails going as fast as we thought possible when suddenly a voice and a chain slapping noise came upon us. It was Frishy. He was pre-riding too- on his Ritchey P21 WCS and we were in his way. He yelled at us "IT'S FLAT! PEDAL THE FLAT!" as he pushed past us in frustration as we coasted along a short flat interlude in the downhill. I tried to match his pace as he ducked away, a second here a second there. I'd like to imagine this is what he's still like.

Had the pleasure at the world champs last year to talk with many pro riders from both XC and DH. The amount of basic technical training they do is surprising for the average mountainbiker. But if you want to master e.g. slippery flat turns your only way is to ride flat turns in all kinds of conditions. Same with riding over obstacles. At first sight it might look weird. But if you want an efficient way to ride fast over big obstacles like logs, rocks and boulders etc. you have to work on your technique quite alot. A bunnyhop is not an efficient technique if you want to use your power to gain speed. So I'm sure Kate is able to beat 98% of the people's ass when it's about getting over all kind of obstacles. It's not just about a classic bunnyhop...

Such a great team. Nino Schurter takes the leader role, team manager Thomas Frischknecht runs the most successful Cross-Country team on the Worldcup circuit with a lot of experiance.

Bunny hops are harder for women, because their strength core is mid-lower body. Especially when she's dragging a bike that's probably 1/4 of her body weight. Have some empathy bro.

To bad your not riding the best bikes. On a Specialized Epic WC you would win more often. I have watched your pedaling on that FS Scott bike and its bobbing way to much, you´re losing momentum and power...You need the best bike to perform better.

@Merlionno yeah so what? How much the bike is bobbing depends also on the rider and how good pedaling-technic the rider has. Thats why the pros train on roundpedaling to avoid the bobbing that is shown if they pedal in squares.Nino has a very very good pedaling-technic and thats why his bike not bob as much as Cate Courtneys bike. Most pros has even a special roundpedaling-bike that stops the propelsion if not both crankarms are pedal equal and in circles on both sides. I have tried such a bike when i met Jenny Risveds( the female Swedish mtb-pro who won the xco in France a week ago )And pedal that bike was not easy i can promise.
