You say it's like practice in not joining a cult and it's a laugh line, but seriously, that is Literally What It Is. I too, have been in a social circle with a charismatic narcissist with a cult of personality who would have "pets" and then discard them as they became bored. I also lost a friend who was insulted that I dared to be offended by the "cult leader's" ill treatment of so many people. Fun Times! And, boy howdy, did I learn A LOT.
