@@sdtpokemongo5964 I'm not a specialist but it allows them to hear themselves singing. It helps being on key and on tempo as they can also choose to hear whatever instrument they want at the volume they want. It's crucial on stage as the sound takes time to travel, from the speakers to the singer's ears. You can get away with it and managed to sing on pitch but being on tempo is trickier. Rita's vocals were noticeably late and more often out of key than usual.
