to everyone asking what the meaning of the video is: both men are metaphors - the dark haired man represents Rita's old life, her true self, while the blond photographer represents the new glamorous life of fame with all its sexy allure and toxic effects. Rita gets seduced by the sexy new life of fame despite the growing protests of her 'inner true self' (e.g. the arguments between the dark haired guy and the photographer). finally she begins to see how the 'new life' can be toxic and that she's losing her true self - but when she tries to turn back, she realises that she can't go back to her old 'true' self either because it has been 'poisoned' as well (when the photographer manages to get to the dark-haired guy at the end). that's what is meant by "poison" =)

I remember when this music video came out I found a comment that explained it very well and I honestly think it was the closest one to the actual message: The white haired guy represents her new life,her fame and all that stuff,but after some time she is tired of it and feels trapped,so she decides to get back to the normal life she had before,which is represented by the dark haired guy,but eventually she realizes that her new life and her old life are now tied together,so there is no way she could get rid of one of the parts and can get back to the life she had because that new experience she wants to abandon is now actually a part of her. The message really breaks my heart💔

For people who didn't get the video: it's about Rita's relationship with the toxic nature of the fashion/entertainment industry which she compares to poison. Even though she knows it's ultimately detrimental to her being, she still wants to be a part of it. Seeing how it changed her for the worse (e.g. the promiscuity etc.), and how she lost herself along the way - 3:18, she attempts to break free. She tries to reunite with the guy she was in love with before making it big, however, upon finding out he fell into the same trap she did - she flees the scene and burns the posters of her fashion alter ego. Whether she truly broke free is up to everyone's own interpretation (but seeing how she's still very much a celebrity, it's safe to say she didn't).

@rhas209 жыл бұрын
Sazzle C I don't really think currency matters! The cost for a music video mainly depends on the set and what is seen in the actual video
@jake279909 жыл бұрын
Miranda Sings' Bae VAT and inflation. Everything in the UK is more expensive. An example would be the iPhone. Costs up to £300 ($460) more in the UK for the same thing. Filming in general is more expensive in the UK. It costs more to hire studios, cameramen, filming equipment etc, plus then when you incorporate the currency exchange, filming a video in the US costs half of what it does to film the same video in the UK.

Interesting video. So has she basically decided that neither guy (/life that came with pursuing them) is what she wanted by the end? Or is she just letting go of the "toxic" blond, while the dark haired guy just made a mistake while trying to impress her? I'm guessing this is very metaphorical, I'm just not sure I understand the whole metaphor.
@ixsmt9 жыл бұрын
***** I think the metaphor is that you don't have to change for someone, but that somehow, it's hard because it's like a poison when you fall in love with someone or something. You change, and you realize way too late that what you had is what you needed. At the end, you see the dark haired guy coming to Rita because he wants to be with her, and then the blond guy hand him some money to go away. And then at the end I think the dark haired guy did the photoshoot with the blond guy because he wanted to change for Rita and be in her world (which was the blond guy's world in the first place).

Argi Mema You guys are stupid as fuck the video is obviously her original life compared to stardom. The stardom didn't turn out to be as good as it seemed and she goes back to her roots, being the first guy.

Kush K well, you can go longways, the guys could be metaphors to different crowds. The blond being the industry and the others being her family and such... We all choose to interpret what we want :)

seriously i think this is such a strong music video. it makes me wanna cry. this is a story which is so close to reality (obviously in a metaphoric way) and i cant stand imagine being the female or male protagonist :( great video. great song rita
