Learn how to install plastic foundation into wooden deep frames. Rite Cell foundation has a very nice coating of bees wax and is a great choice to use in your hives. I also discuss how that last cold snap is affecting the bees resources.

Western Central PA....honey flow doesn't exist. my strongest hives have a super on them, maybe two....no capped honey in them....barely any nectar. I'm feeding my nucs syrup in mid June....JUNE!!! if the nectar flow doesnt come soon i may consider the summer flow a bust, feed syrup to all my hives and pray for a good fall flow. Wasn't a good winter for bees, not a good spring.....ready to call the entire season a failure.

Cell-rite? Lol. May be the Dirt Rooster hat causing the confusion. Lol just ribbing you Jason. Thanks for the video. I most often use plastic foundation and use different manufacturers. But I always coat them with my own wax. If they don't get drawn for whatever reason I recoat them again the next time they get put in. I'm in Ohio also, not much pollen coming in now. I ordered from Mannlake this past week and had my order in hand in just a few days. Contacting their customer service is a different story.

If anyone has answers, i would really appreciate as i have never had bees officially. A hive of bees set up their hive in an old dryer vent (not closed up too well) in the wall of my house. I didn't know what the swarms were at first, and i admit to trying to spray neem oil on them in desperation, until someone told me they were bees. So i instantly stopped, and began looking for options. So i ordered a two layer hive house for them which just arrived and i have almost assembled it now. In the spring, i want to lure these bees into their own place and patch the hole up well. First question: It has the black inserts, but i don't know if they have wax on them or not. Do all black inserts have wax? Second question: Did you drill a round hole in the front of this hive house? My hive has a small opening at the base, but it's just flat and at the bottom. I would like a round opening if possible. And any suggestions when i try to get these bees out would be greatly appreciated! They seem gentle, but i don't want to get stung or to traumatize them. I just want them moved to their new house.
@JCsBees
@JCsBees 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, No not all foundation (inserts) are coated in wax. Lay your hand on it and see if you feel resistance as you slide your hand across it, if so it's probably waxed. If not, you will need to put a lite coat of bees wax on it. Yes, I did drill the entrance hole in my boxes. I used a 3/4" drill bit. The flat entrance you speak of will work fine though. I would wait until spring like you mentioned to move these bees into the hive box. Until then research "forced absconds" or "doing cut outs" so you know what to expect to get them into their new home. I would suggest you buy a protective bee suit.

Had an order from Mann Lake arrive in 2 days (didn't expect it that fast). Right now we have White Dutch, Yellow Sweet in full bloom and White Sweet is just beginning to bloom in Central KY. Hemp Dogbane is coming online this week as well but it is way out of order. The freeze early in the year stopped the Dogbane but it is coming back. We lost Locust to the freeze as well so I'll take whatever will bloom.

NW KS. Very strong flow this year. Many swarms. Observed hatched cells being immediately filled with nectar, which is what I believe caused the swarms (queen out of space). The new comb building couldn't keep up with the incoming nectar. The flow is coming to an end now as we've had a couple weeks without rain.

I ordered from MannLake with free shipping a few weeks ago. Many cases of various sizes of bottles, 36+ unassembled mediums, and many x20 boxes of assembled frames with ritecell, and a few odds and ends. I got the bottles, boxes, and odds and ends from MN within a week, and frames from CA about a week later. A made a few calls about the order during the wait and it was HARD to get someone on the phone. Once I did, top notch service as always!

I ordered rite cell foundation, groove and wedge frames as well as various items almost 3 weeks ago. I received 1/3 of my order in a week and I am still waiting for the rest of my order with no ETA. My previous order in April took 2 weeks for delivery and 20 unassembled frames came loose in a big box and not in its own packaging. Most phone calls I end up waiting for 30+ min and getting an answering service to leave a message. Emails go unanswered or take 3-4 days to respond. Very frustrating... Shipping to Cinci. They don’t have the ability to state whether an item is out of stock on their website and you find out it’s a partial order first by evaluating the pick ticket. They recently raised their prices on the rite cell foundation by a few $. I have purchased from them the past 4-5 years and have never experienced these types of issues.

Hi, Jason, I have not had issues with slow delivery times from Mann Lake. My last delivery had free shipping and I had it in five business days, which is fine, If I am desperate I will pay for fast shipping, but I try to plan ahead to skip the high shipping cost. Regarding flows, our first floes here are red maple and black locust. The maple got hit with an ice and snow storm just as it was starting, which pretty much wiped it out. We had a major wind and rain storm when the locust was starting which knocked a lot of it out. The good news is that it has been a cool spring and we have mostly had the right amount of rain at the right times. Two of my out yards on the edges in wheatfields and.the flows have been a bit stronger and a bit longer than usual, The canola is mostly past, but the wildflowers, and especially the star thistle, have been drawn out. Beekeepers ,use be the only people out here who love star thistle. I know I hat it when pheasant season comes around and the spiny seed pods are everywhere. The pollen out in the country has been fantastic and I have been able to bring pollen frames back to feed in my other hives. Southeast Washington, Walla Walla. Stu

1st year beek here from central VA. Started with a large order to Kelly Bees early this spring. A couple weeks went by and i started calling about my order. 3 different calls and none of the persons i talked with could find my order or even see it on their computer. Yet my card had been charged. i cancelled the order and placed an identical order with Mann Lake. (Unbeknownst to me at the time Mann Lake had just acquired Kelly over the last year or so). They did much better. i had my order in a week. As for the nectar flow there hasn’t been much of one here in Virginia either. i have been heavily feeding 1/1 syrup and pollen patties since starting my colonies from packages. They have been growing like gang busters which has led to 5 healthy splits into nucs. i am almost ready to try grafting. Getting everything in place. Thanks for your videos! i learn a lot of good things from you!

Early this year the maple and willow were my early pollen source. They pretty much ignored the dandelions this year and brought in lots of lite grayish-tan pollen. Towards the end of May until mid-June they didn't bring in much pollen but they were almost pollen bound by then. The last couple of days they are now piling in a lite orange pollen like crazy. It's not as bright orange as dandelion pollen but there is a ton of it. They are carrying so much nectar and pollen they are having a hard time getting on the landing board. I checked some of the Linden trees which are in full bloom now but I don't see any bees on them. The bass wood is just starting to bloom so maybe that's where they are foraging. I have a 5 frame nuc that I got in Mid-May and in 5 weeks they have filled out a 10 frame double deep while drawing 6-7 new frames of comb and they have a medium super 1/2 filled already and they had to draw that comb out also. They're finding something good!

I recently helped a friend extract honey. He had plastic foundation in wooden frames, with grooved top and bottom. Nearly every foundation blew out of the frame. He had an electric, 9 frame extractor. How can I avoid this happening to my new Rite Cell foundation?
@lonnieburford7649
@lonnieburford7649 4 жыл бұрын
Use a manual crank extractor. Some of the cheaper electric extractors does not have a ramp up time as an option. This means the heavier weight of the honey will sometimes blow out the frames before it picks up to full speed.

Instead of 7 to 10 dollars, they make 30 to 40. I own my own business and I know how companies are when they ship. It's funny how now covid is the reason. Problem with that is you 2 companies took 3, 4 and 5 weeks to ship my orders months before covid. One of you even held my order for 3 weeks because you said a hive tool wasn't in stock. A hive tool? REALLY! I can use anything to open a hive. I could go on and make this a 10 paragraph rant but I'm gonna end it with this. You two companies better get your act together because like bushy mountain. You can be replaced. I was about to place an 800 dollar order with Mannlake last week and decided to take my money elsewhere.

@@JCsBees You said you wouldn't advertise for him on your channel. Maybe not mean-spirited... I apologize. All beekeepers should have each other's backs, especially on KZbin. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I enjoy your videos and your information is really helpful for other beekeepers. I guess i have a soft-spot in heart for Randy because his channel was the second one I started watching back in 2017.

In a few years, when the comb gets funky I am thinking a steamer and a stack of deeps. Melt off the old wax and somewhat sterilize at the same time. Have you got plans for one of those yet?
