From Pedro Bustamante's perspective, symbols and rituals of power define and represent the system of power and religion of all times and histories. For example, the power of the rituals and symbols of the Venetian nobility can be understood as archetypal manifestations of the collective unconscious, designed to give form and meaning to their dominance over society.
In this context, and according to Carl Jung, symbols and rituals act as bridges between the conscious and the collective unconscious, giving the social structure a sense of archetypal and universal order. Furthermore, knowledge of symbols allowed the symbol to be used as a psychological machine in ritual practices, whether at private or public parties, including the Venice Carnival, in order to achieve the transformation of profane energy into sacred energy.
Or, in other words, the Venetian nobility, which reached its peak between the 14th and 18th centuries, built its power around a complex network of symbols and rituals that reinforced its exclusive status and control over the Republic of Venice. That is why Pedro Bustamante says that the powers of all times used the psychological machine for ritual and hierogamic reasons, as he explains in his book "Sacrificios y Hierogamias". He also explains all this in a case study: The 13 Heresies of El Greco, to understand the symbolic knowledge and ritual mechanics of the Venetian nobility and the Spanish nobility during the Renaissance.
