Uhh... Those funny meme characters often have a LOT of effort put into them. Just because they're not made by professional artists doesn't mean work doesn't go into them. I'm making a funny character and it's taken me 3 months so far. Sorry it's not a balance team accepted profesionally drawn oc. Just because a mod doesn't look like it's really good art doesn't mean it doesn't have effort. People like me are absolutely awful at art, it takes me 3 times as long to design a crappy sprite as it takes someone who's good at it to design a great sprite. Are my mods the best quality? Maybe not. But they still have a ton of effort put into them. So next time just say "I like how there are more clean characters" or "I like that now there's characters who fit the games style now" instead of implying that effort didn't go into the other characters.

2:57 correction: If I recall correctly, that song was not made by Toby Fox. Megalo Strikes Back isn’t even the official name but since it doesn’t have an official name that’s just the best thing to call the track. I heard that the song was actually made as an Earthbound fan song (which is actually the same thing that happened with Megalovania itself)

Megalo Strike Back was actually part of an Earthbound fan album named I Miss You - Earthbound 2012, released in, as the title implies, 2012. On the Bandcamp release, it does cite Toby as the artist.

Personally, Krag was my starter character from Base roster. If you're looking to start with Workshop for whatever reason, Iroh has been a fairly fun character for me personally.

Base roster is great for picking up simple mechanics. Zetterburn is extremely simple and is a great choice.

If I ever learn how to make sprites, I'm going to make my Splatoon oc a character. Edit: I made a moveset for my character. Here it is. The name: Octean and Octa Summary: Octean is an octoling from Splatoon that has a little octopus spirit type thing that looks kinda like this: 🐙. Octa is the spirit's name and it usually stays by Octean's side, floating diagonally from his left shoulder, unless Octa gets bored and starts to move sides. Octean has three modes that will be switched by pressing down special. The modes include: Tentacles mode: A mode where all of Octean's attacks use his tentacles that either become his limb(s) for a brief moment or are summoned from a portal. Swords mode: Octean can summon a sword that is made out of ink. It's like a lightsaber! All of his attacks use swords. He can also summon a second sword to attack on his other hand. Normal mode: A cross between Swords mode and Tentacles mode. Some attacks use tentacles, some swords, some are martial arts attacks using his fists and legs. He is a a jack of all trades type thing. I will now state of the specials and other attacks of each mode. Normal mode ( Defensive ) Fair: An arc slash with his sword. Bair: He swings his arm out behind him and a portal forms and a tentacles comes out and whips his opponent. This would be decently long ranged. Dair: Octean thrusts a leg downwards, and has a chance to spike. Up air: An arc kick above his head. Nair: He transforms his arms into tentacles and swings them around, covering most of his body. Side tilt: He would do a simple kick out. Up tilt: A fast uppercut. Down tilt: He would do a sweep kick. Neutral special: Octean would charge a chain attack. If it is barely charged, it's a fast swipe with a sword. If it is half charged, then it's a swipe into a tentacles whip. If it is fully charged, then Octean swipes his sword hard, the tentacle throws you up instead of whipping, and then Octean jumps up and strikes you with a downward thrust of his sword. The final strike spikes. Side special: He dashes forward with a sword in hand and he swings it if it connects. Up special: He uses the classic super jump from Splatoon. Down special: Switch modes. Down smash: Two tentacles are summoned and slam down on either side of Octean. F smash: Octean slashes with his sword multiple times. Up smash: He kicks in upward arc while doing a handstand. Swords mode (Aggressive) Fair: A quick swipe with his sword. Bair: He swings his sword backward. Dair: A forward facing slam with his sword that can spike. Up air: Octean thrusts his sword upwards. Nair: A tornado spin with two swords. Neutral special: Like the Normal neutral special, except only with swords. The tentacle that whips you up or down is replaced with Octean dashing towards you and slashing. Side special: A more powerful version of Normal mode's dash. Up special: He summons two swords and spins them like helicopters above his head. This has a hitbox that covers his arms, head, and sword. Down special: Change mode. Side tilt: A swipe of his sword. Down tilt: A lower sword poke. Up tilt: Sword arc slash Tentacles mode (Zoning) Fair: Octean summons a tentacle and it whips out in front of him. Bair: Same as Normal mode Bair, except stronger and more long ranged. Dair: Two tentacles clap together below Octean's feet. This can't spike. Up air: Same as dair, but above his head. Nair: Octean turns his arms into tentacles and spins around three times quickly. Neutral special: Same as the other neutrals, except with only tentacles. A quick press makes Octean point forward, and Octa shoots out very far. Side special: He points forward, and two tentacles lunge out and grab your opponent. If the tentacles grab, they slam the opponent into the ground. While the tentacles lunge, they reflect any projectiles. Up special: He summons two tentacles that swirl around him, bringing him up. It can be angled, and travels decently far. Down special: Change mode. Side tilt: A quick whip of a tentacle. Down tilt: He whips a tentacle on the ground. It can be comboed into side tilt. Up tilt: An arc whip that can be comboed into itself then up air or up smash. Up smash: Two tentacles surge up and clap two times. Down smash: Tentacles spin around Octean, protecting him from all downward and forward attacks. This can also reflect, but can be punished easily if it doesn't connect. F smash: A large whip of a tentacle. Appearance: His tentacles serve as his hair, yet he doesn't use them for attacking. One tentacle covers his left eye and has a spike collar on it. Another long one drops down the back of his head. Two are going down the side of his head. He wears a purple scarf, black jacket with a red octopus in the middle and blue jeans. He also wears some fresh black and red sneakers to go with his jacket. His age is 14 years old. He is sort of thin, but not skinny(He wants to be ripped to impress the ladies). His default ink color is red. His iries in his eyes are red. Taunt: He summons a tentacle to stand by him and look menacing. He equips his sword and turns his back to the camera with his head turned to look behind him. He makes 'Hmph.' noise. Occasionally he'll accidentally make a cute octoling noise, then his face will turn red as he realizes what noise he just made. Octa will do a spin and maybe a little cheer. If Octean accidentally makes the cute noise, Octa will laugh and point at him instead of doing the spin and cheer. The end.
